"Perfect for Free :D"

May 19, 2011  |  By neonixfilm

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

Lightweight, simple interface, powerful software.

Cons

Full version costs money.

Summary

This is an awesome video editor. I mean, for free, what do you expect, Premiere?

Anyway, using the full version for two weeks was great. Then the trial expired and I didn't want to install spam-like Internet bars on my computer, so I downgraded to the free version.

Turns out that, in conjunction with Wax (which I use for 3D-like effects), this is really powerful and can be a substitute (albeit a mediocre one) for Premiere/After Effects.

Since this isn't a review about Wax, I'll keep this brief.

I'm an indie filmmaker with little money to spare on programs for editing and VFX. This is a nice little program which I'll be using to make an upcoming Internet show, Film Club, and also on my Advanced Senior Research for independent short films.

Anyway, if you're looking to trump Movie Maker in any way, shape, or form, get this. It'll offer you so much more for the same price.

"Amazingly good. Simple to use."

July 31, 2010  |  By roncoleman85

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

It does everything I want a video editor to do -- finally. Works with all kinds of files, editing is extremely intuitive, offers most of the functionality needed right out of the box, doesn't require a degree in software engineering.

Cons

Compared to everything else out there, this program seems to have none.

Summary

What I've been looking for for a long, long time.

"New Version 1.01 out!"

August 13, 2009  |  By Allij

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

Much improved on V 1.0

Cons

none to report at first glance

Summary

VideoPad v 1.0 has been out for some time. Probably a litmus test like most NCH free programs and it seems the response has been sufficient for NCH to put it through another development cycle. V 1.01 has a more intuitive design and improved GUI , and of course the bugs ironed out

"Harmful software, do not install."

August 04, 2009  |  By tuccius

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

None what so ever. No stars if it would let me.

Cons

After using I decided to uninstall because windows movie maker does it better, faster and eaiser. As it uninstalled it took my start menu with it and I lost all of the images and vids I had used in the program.

Summary

Unless you want to spend a day fixing what this program screwed up DO NOT INSTALL!

"Good for quick, basic edits"

July 10, 2009  |  By spinshot

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

doesn't feel bloated, decent work flow. the timeline can also double as a storyboard

Cons

cannot set CG title length; GUI is a little confusing

Summary

I already have a very powerful editing suite, but I wanted something that could rough cut a video in as few operations as possible. The Flip camera software came very close to what I wanted but left a bit to be desired.

VideoPad is a freeware gem. The windows in the GUI seemed to behave strangely, but after toying around with the editor, it becomes clear why. It basically rearranges the tool windows based on which one has focus. As far as editing goes, quick timeline scubbing and mark in/out operations are fast. Transitions render automatically in the background and also is fast. Also, a very nice feature is that the timeline is represented by a thumbnail instead of a bar. When fully zoomed out, you have nice pictoral storyboard, which is great for rearranging footage.

What could be improved? The CG (text graphics) length cannot be altered. It persists throughout the entire clip that it started in. Not so good for when you just want a quick lower third popping up to give some information, like a person's name, location, etc... Come to think of it there is a workaround... just split the clip into two :^)

Didn't really mess around with the effects and transitions other than dissolve. 95% of editing can be done with cuts and dissolves anyway. Cheesy effects I will leave to others to use.

Not used to seeing a single layer video timeline, but it is perfect for basic A/B cuts editing. Audio has multiple layers, though.

Good amount of output resoutions and formats.

Wishlist: output straight to youTUBE, flv encoder, timeline layers (maybe)

"Absolutely Awful"

June 20, 2009  |  By XherekittykittyX

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

The download file is rather small. Thats about it.

Cons

Everything else pretty much sucked dirt. First, when it opened, it immediately crashed. When it did work, I couldnt see a single thing, like my screen was too small. Then when I got the video on there, it wouldnt play. TOTAL CRAP!

"ANOTHER in a long line of BOGUS programs"

June 10, 2009  |  By dubhippy

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

it didn't destroy my PC

Cons

does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Summary

i tried to edit TWO different versions of the same clip to no avail! one was a STANDARD 640X480 AVI which it would only PLAY and the other was an MS compatible it just played at 1/2 speed. NONE of the three "open & import" file options i chose would let me edit either clip and dragging & dropping it in the timeline was ANOTHER waste of time!

i'm getting about mother effing sick of twenty effing editors and not an effing one works crap!

thanx for wasting my time sphincters!

"Cool but has some annoying stuff too"

March 16, 2009  |  By silentthunder017

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

The video editor is pretty cool. It seems to work much better than WMM that came with my windows. Also, lets you install some other really cool software

Cons

installs too much stuff on the start menu, and has pop ups when closing the program(s)

Summary

The video editor is simple, and only takes a few minutes to learn how to use. Effects really helped me lighten up some dark videos footage of my band.

While I do like the extra software that you can install via one installer, it also installs 2 or 3 folders for each thing you install on your start menu.

My one big complaint is that every time you close any of the programs, and even some of the sub programs, you are sent to a website asking to you sign up for their newsletter and asking for donations.

"Pretty terrific video editor!!"

February 10, 2009  |  By 2poor2pay

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

Spyware-free, relatively small in file size, runs smooth, supports many file types, simple to use, nice little transition effects, output file retains original quality, just fantastic!!

Cons

Not very fond of the direct install thru the publisher's website. And I wish a video created WITH flv files could output AS an flv file directly onto my pc. Also wish the cutting function was a little easier to work with.

Summary

But really just ignore my cons. The direct install was annoying--it deposits some links to its website on your start menu, which you can quickly delete--but safe. And how many freeware video editors even work with flv files? The cutting function prolly just takes practice. Overall, I think this is an excellent little tool, I recommend it highly!!

"Has potential, but is currently too weak."

January 17, 2009  |  By ZZDaikun

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor 1.0

Pros

Concise video editing. Audio and video can be detached. Infinite audio layers.

Cons

Lacking in video transitions and effects. Windows Movie Maker, sad as it is, actually excels in this department!

Summary

It's too young, but it's a beta release, so that's understandable. Wait for it to mature a bit before downloading.
