CNET Editors' review
Though it lacks the features of big-name programs such as Adobe Premiere, Video Magic is admirably simple and suitable for basic home use. Once you've captured media from a DV camera, a DVD camcorder, or another source, you just drop the video and audio files onto Video Magic's time-line-based interface to start editing. The program provides a healthy number of transitions and effects, such as fades, wipes, and even a picture-in-picture tool. It's a snap to slap together video files and add dissolves, narration, and background music. When you're done, Video Magic can output your movie to any of the major video formats, including AVI, MPEG, and WMV. The program now includes a tool for splitting clips into multiple segments, but we didn't find it all that easy to use. Also, the program lacks a dedicated trimming tool, making it difficult to fine-tune transitions. Overall, Video Magic is best suited for novices who want to get their feet wet before moving on to more full-featured packages.Publisher's Description

"Dying from neglect"
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros
Good feature set; easy to use; flexible and versatile
Cons
Somewhat overpriced; poor support; buggy; stuck in development limbo
Summary
The program tends to crash for no apparent reason, so save often. The watermark feature has a longstanding bug (cannot change opacity). Video Edit Magic has been stuck at Version 4.47 for over 2 years (since before May, 2008). Have they completely stopped development? With so many outstanding bugs? I say, stay away from any program that is stuck in development limbo.

"Would be good if"
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros
I liked the software's capabilities and learned it fast.
Cons
Would be good if could import MPEG-4 files, which it doesn't seem to want to do. It accepted MOV files fine and was able to do test editing with it.
Summary
If you want to edit MPEG-4 files, forget this software.

"Won't work with my Canon avi files"
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros
Looks like it is well supported
Cons
Doesn't work with avi files from a Canon camera
Summary
The program choked on the avi files from my Canon camera. The help file said to update my codecs, but I am already running the most up-to-date ones. The support forum suggested using Windows Media Player to open the file, since WMP will automatically find the right codecs. But WMP had no problem with the, and did not need to find any new codecs to play it. I tried to find out which codecs I need by opening File -> Properties in WMP, but none are listed. Looks like I am out of luck.

"Video Edit Magic gave an error message and crashed."
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros
There's nothing to like here.
Cons
It's all a con when the program doesn't work.
Summary
As soon as Video Edit Magic opened, it gave me an error message that read - Run time error, with a long winded number. And it said - The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

"Did not work"
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros
Appears to offer a wide range of functions.
Cons
I tried 1 and it did not work. I wanted to cut an AVI, to this end it re-encoded it so that I could never play it again.
Summary
VideoEditMaster seems more limited, but it works.

Cons
Heaps of buggs. Files needs to be converted to be properly used. Whole thing shuts down from time to time, so be sure to save a lot.
Summary
It makes me mad, i have to restart the program all the time, heaps of bugs

"very hard work"
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros

Cons
takes a lot of effort to make simple clips
Summary
very over worked ,poor user features just hasent got any polish about it
-
"Offers lots of file conversion and output choices."
Version: Video Edit Magic 4.47
Pros
A nice compromise between expensive professional video editing software, and 'dumbed down' consumer software.
Cons
I would like for the audio fields to drag with the video fields, on the timeline.
Summary
I've had my copy for a year. I shuttle between my ancient copy of Premiere, a new copy of Sony Vegas (the $50 version) and this, along with using several other little cheap or free programs. The more familiar I become with Video Edit Magic, the more pleased I am with what a good value it is.
