"Run don't walk to get away from this!!! Bad Bad"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 5.2.1012
Pros
Nice presentation of installed software but that's about it
Cons
Found software that needed updating and installed a German update. How clever is that? The main thing this software does it to sell the rest of their software
Summary
This product is based on a great idea but is a bad example of implementation. I had such high hopes and would have thought about paying but I'm glad they had a test although I only tested for an hour. After that hour it was so bad that I uninstalled it and tried the free version that does absolutely nothing except want you to install the paid version.

"Why should I pay for this?"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 5.2.1012
Pros
+ nice scanner showing all installed software versus updates
Cons
- why should I pay for downloading foreign software
Summary
nice idea, bad realization. Over all that software should be free - in that case it would be a nice benefit.
-
"works well"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 3.1 build 762
Pros
not too hard to work out
Cons
a lot of advertising to upgrade to premium version
Summary
I also use www.ssw.com.au/ssw/Diagnostics which does a similar job

"Using the free version. Buy the premium and hope? MAYBE"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 3.1 build 762
Pros
Provides a good, quick look at all your programs, their version status and the urgency of any needed version updates.
Cons
with the same info provided by other programs as secondary functions to their main purpose....it's not hard to immagine life without it...........or not?
Summary
It's not unusual to run "UPDATE STAR FREE" and find programs they have already been running the latest version available after being made aware by another source.
Maybe Premium version would correct that I don't know. -
"INACCURATE and USELESS!!!"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 3.1 build 762
Pros
Easy to uninstall.
Cons
DOES NOT report accurately. Software is scanned only according to ORIGINAL version installed on the date of installation. Also from the first scan one is pressured to BUY "better" products.
Summary
UpdateStar was a disappointment beginning with the confusing user interface, filled with useless, irrelevent information. I make sure my software is updated. I would have expected it to find everything up-to-date, or perhaps a program or two I missed. Instead it reported Quite a number of updates for my software. When I double-checked the items it said should be updated, not only did I find everything was up-to-date, but I noticed the "scheme" this software uses. It finds the oldest, earliest entries from the date of original installation. It has no way of determining subsequent updates to installed software. To show its total incompetence, it was not even able to read most installed software, reporting them as unknown versions. This is most likely because I clean and eliminate temp and install setup files, and i keep my registry nice and clean. To download this product is a WASTE OF TIME! It can't do the job it supposedly was made to do. What it does do is pester the user to upgrade the UpdateStar to better versions (for a price). I was very happy to uninstall UpdateStar from my system. UpdateStar is USELESS!!!

"not free and has limitations until you buy it"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 3.1 build 762
Pros
nothing at all, decieving advertisement
Cons
was not what it says, not free at all, has limitations till you buy it,
Summary
if a software is free, then it should be free, otherwise it must be a ripoff, things should not be advertised as free and no limitations unless they are exactly that
-
"Only sounds good."
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 2.4
Pros
It has an easy interface and a nice look. Scans nearly all installed software.
Cons
There are a lot of software available free that work better than Update Star.
Summary
Didn't really like it.
-
"Rubbishware"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 3.0 build 740
Pros
Not free at all, will redirect your browser to their site asking you to buy the premium edition that is actually the one that works, this one does not.
Cons
Rubbishware in the house. Worthless software.
Summary
Don't download cheaterware.
-
"pops out of nowhere, when software needs updating"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 2.3 build 654
Pros
runs silently and efficiently
Cons
a few false positives occasionally
Summary
it's a good program to have and it's free to the bargain
-
"Inter fears with gaming"
Version: UpdateStar Premium Edition 2.2
Pros
Looks good nice interface
Cons
Tried to update Update Star and could not shut it down to start its own update. Second thing I did not like was that I was unable to program when it was to run, it was always interfering with games, flashing through the game.
Summary
Bottom line rarely used, I mainly do games and email with some surfing for mods and freeware and write ups on products. It would be nice if it did what you want when you want. Up dates are not always a good thing.
