I've been running OS 10.3.9 for about a year now on my 8600 (288mb ram) thanks to this application and a Sonnet G3/400 upgrade. It's a duel boot system with OS9 on one partition and OSX on the other. Saved me big $$$!!!

      Thanks!

      Summary

i'm in a really good mood tonight - a number of things have been going well latelly, and one of them is that thanks to XPostFacto and the great people at OWC i've got my trusty old 300 MHz Wallstreet PowerBook running Tiger - 10.4.3, in fact - as smooth and easy as if Apple intended it.

XPostFacto has never worked for me with just one click like it does for some people; i don't usually wind up with a successful installation before the sixth or seventh try (or more)...twice i'll get a panic; two more times i wind up perpetually "still waiting for root device"...another time everything seems to go great until i get to the very end of the installation process and instead of "Finishing Installation..." i see text telling me to try installing again (no explanation given)...and so on. for me, the process has been fraught with difficulty. but i got it done quicker with XPF 4 than i did with...whatever version i used to put Panther on this machine...and also, the difficulty i have getting the installation to work right just increases, exponentially, the satisfaction i derive from finally tasting success.

i love this software. i really will pay for it soon. i promise. OWC deserves $25.00 (at least!) for giving my beloved PowerBook not one, but two new leases on life now. what an amazing feat of software engineering. really.

Awesome. Spent 10 hours that I will never get back trying to update Tiger on a 10.3.9 Lombard Powerbook 400mhz without a firewire. I was ready to give up and came across this program and thought "why not?????." So I downloaded it and put in the Tiger DVD and then pressed a button and 1 hour later a fully functional Tiger running flawlessly.

What I tried BEFORE Xpostfacto(10 painful hours):

      Booting a target computer(my G5 20inch imac superdrive) using "t" and a firewire connection.
Using a program with "cloning" -didn't work.
Using an external firewire with an external hardrive.--no luck!
Using my Ipod with Tiger installed on it(which is a genius idea I found by someone on a mac forum that installed Tiger on my computer and all of my friends---use disk utility for that)then boot up under the startup disk under your Ipod. That didn't work on the lombard either.......The only solution...

      XPOSTFACTO! You rock! Thanks!!

Works very well on my G3/233 so that I can use this old machine (seven years!) as a download server in the internet!

I've been using Xpostfacto ever since it came out. More often than not it works, usually quite well. I've used it on a UMAX S900 and a Wallstreet 300mhz. It keeps these admittedly elderly machines useful and productive. There are drawbacks obviously, OEM video on these old machines isn't up to the task viewing a Quicktime or DVDs, they lack the needed horsepower. Any nearly any other task however they will do fine. My old Wallstreet for example wiles away it's final years doing coffee table duty, whether checking IMDB or streaming iTunes to an Airport Express with an off the shelf 802.11g PCMIA card.

I had a chance to quickly chat with the developer at the last MacWorld in SF. This guy is the kindest, most brilliant man ever. Thanks very much for software like this, and best of all thanks for keeping it reasonably free. Great work. Thanks for this, once again! :)

Running Tiger on PowerTower Pro with Sonnet 800mhz G4. Runs pretty darn well in fact! I highly recommend this as a way to save your old mac and actually use it. I gave mine to my daughter for school -- she loves it!!

An earlier beta version of XPostFacto enabled installation of Tiger on my 266-mhz Beige G3 (rev A) and on it bootable external FireWire hard drive. At that time, I posted an indepth review in the www.MacOSXHints.com "OS X Products -- News and Reviews" forum that said that Ryan Rempel's XPF approached Gold Medal status. It no longer approaches; it's there. For an indepth review of XPostFacto, "XPostFacto Enables Tiger installation on unsupported, legacy Macs" http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=40044 Ryan Rempel since has made installation of Tiger (and Panther) on Macs easier and more hiccup-free. My Beige was sentenced by Apple to go no further than Jaguar. But XPF 4 allowed it to run Panther and then Tiger. XPF allowed the Beige to boot an external FireWire hard drive. And a version of XPF that came out since my review tricked the Beige into being able to do a shift-down boot into Safe Mode, something that was previously impossible. Other World Computing's several forums that related to installation of Tiger or Panther on "old-world Macs" can be found at: http://forum.macsales.com/index.php The site hosts individual forums for several different legacy Mac generations as well as forums on XPostFacto, Problems and How-To tips. You'll find my 16 tips on how to install Tiger with XPostFacto at: http://forum.macsales.com/viewtopic.php?t=2371 And a great deal more gold may be found in the How-To and other forums. My only association with the sponsor of the forums is as a subscriber. My only association with the developer is as an exceptionally appreciative user of XPF. Respectfully, Norm

Wow my mac is 10 years old now! lol Wintel.

      Thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!

XPostFacto works great! It is great.
      I have it on my
      PowerMac 7500 with: ;)
      G4 800 Mhz
      640 Megs of Ram
      Radeon 7000 Video Card
      USB 1.4 card
      Sonnettec Combo Card ATA133/FireWire/USB 2.0
      80 Gig IBM 7200
      SCSI 12x internal cd rom
      FireWire external 52x CD/CDRW/CDR
And with an Epson CX6400 all in one
2 ZIP drives external and internal.
2 Floppy drives external and internal.
Built in bootable SCSI internal and external.
      ADB ports.
      on board Serial too ;)
      Built in Apple Video addapter
      RCA in and out.

I'm not too sure if I'm getting 2.0 USB though. when I plug my epson in to the combo card it has issues. But when i plug it into my usb 1.4 card it works great. Scanning printing etc.

Also iSite video can just go black. I'm assuming because of the slow bus speed on my 7500.

And a quick tip. If your gona use a big drive on a machine like mine. Format it first with your first partition being less than 8 gig. Your system will not let you install OSX on a drive bigger than that. not sure why. But your welcome to try it and show me how you did it.

Also I can't get the RCA Video in to work. But the FireWire works. so thats kewl.
