This single-function system utility removes a file's access restrictions, but lacks some common features. Unlocker is unobtrusive: it resides in the system tray; an Unlocker command appears in files' right-click menus.
The application removes file-access restrictions that prevent a user from moving, deleting, or renaming a file. The user right-clicks on a file and selects Unlocker, which displays information regarding the selected file, such as Path Locked, PID, Handle, and Process Path. This program also allows terminating a currently running process. In some cases, files cannot be accessed due to Windows file-access bugs, for which Windows informs the user the file is currently in use--even when it's not.
Unlocker can effectively bypass this bug's restrictions; it unlocks or disables whatever is preventing the user to access that file. This tool would be a lot easier to use if it allowed hot keys. Novices to advanced users will find this free application very useful.
Publisher's description
From Cedrick Collomb :Ever had such an annoying message given by Windows: Cannot delete file: Access is denied. There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use or the file is in use by another program or user. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. Unlocker is the solution. Unlocker is an Explorer extension that allows you with a simple right-click of the mouse on a file or folder to get rid of error message such as error deleting file or folder, cannot delete folder: it is used by another person or program.

Version: Unlocker 1.8.8
"Outstanding product, and yes its clean"
Pros: Does everything and more compared to other unlocking software. Unlocker Is compatable with windows xp,vista, and 7(as far as iv tested). Best of all, unlocker is FREE. Yes i said it, FREE...
Cons: Ehh, nothing in particular except the ebay shorcut(which can be removed from installation, the auto check for updates feature(which can also be removed from installation)
Summary: Overall unlocker is one of the best, wait i take that back, the best unlocking software out there. Despite the developer's website being marked unsafe, and malware ridden, and all of those whom are getting Mcafee, or in otherwords crapafee alerts sa... read more >>

Version: Unlocker 1.8.8
"Perfect but what about that trojan???"
Pros: Surely one of those "must-donate" applications. It exactly does what it's supposed to do and nothing more, nothing less. It quickly responds, does what's need to be done then sits in the tray or simply leave if you choose to.
Cons: Since the version 1.8.8, my McAfee Security Center, which I really rely on, keeps quarantining this program. As it says, a kind of trojan (Artemis in my case) detected. I can't see a reason why an application like this contains a silliness like that.
Summary: As being said in previous posts, this little thingie works like a charm. But either those said security/av applications or this application itself should make this get out of the way, very soon, very quick. I use this application for a very long tim... read more >>

Version: Unlocker 1.8.8
"Works great in Windows 7 --- IF........"
Pros: Works in Windows 7, BUT.....
Cons: You have to have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, and install XP Mode. This is a bit of an inconvenience to do, but once installed it's not too bad.
Summary: You have to be using Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate AND install Windows XP Mode. Install Unlocker in XP Mode and you can do anything you need to do within that window.

Version: Unlocker 1.8.8
"Caution may contain MALWARE."
Pros: NONE, haven't installed it yet.
Cons: When I downloaded this 'program' just now, I got the "TrojanClicker:Win32/Yabector.B " malware. While downloading, my antivirus went nuts and found this malware. Using microsoft security essentials.
Summary: Just FYI...
I tried to download again and lost. microsoft security essentials always detects the same malware and will not download the file. fyi...
