CNET Editors' review
We'd never award it prizes for looks or design, but like all the software in the TuneWiki family, this streaming app's capability to spool lyrics in time with the music makes it an application well worth your attention.
TuneWiki begins with an online database where community users upload song lyrics, Wikipedia-style. When you use TuneWiki as a media player, it hooks into this database to stream lyrics in time with the music. There are occasionally mistakes, and songs without lyrics, both of which are a function of the underlying community Wiki and not the application itself.
But the TuneWiki iPhone app is responsible for recreating your media library and streaming lyrics for tunes streamed from ShoutCast Radio. It can also search for music videos (these will play full-screen), show you where other TuneWiki users are playing which songs all over the globe, and ping Twitter or Facebook with status updates when you listen to songs.
It does all of this plainly, and with some confusing button iconography. The interface alone shapes a rather mediocre user experience, but pile on the streaming lyrics and social extras and you have an application with immediate use and a catalog of song lyrics that will only grow as more users sign on.
