After nearly two years, Trillian is back to claim its rightful title as king of all chat clients. Version 3 offers a completely overhauled interface, tabbed chatting, enhanced messaging functionality, improved file transfers, and a new Instant Lookup feature. The program offers simultaneous access to the fab-five chat clients: Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ, mIRC, and AIM. By importing your passwords, buddy lists, and client preferences into its own interface, Trillian acts as a hub for all your chat traffic.
Installation and setup are simple, and the included features are useful. You can check supported e-mail accounts with one click, view detailed event logs for each client, and, of course, chat. Plus, each supported chat client has options such as video and voice messaging, SMS support, and file transfers. Trillian also offers skin support, although they can be a bit testy to install. While you'll occasionally lose contact with AIM, that's AOL's fault. Credit Trillian for fixing these blocks quickly.
The best thing about Trillian is that it's absolutely free--there's no adware or functionality limitations. So if you need help managing your schizophrenic chatting identity, this puppy's for you.
Publisher's description
Trillian is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. It provides capabilities not possible with original network clients, while supporting standard features such as audio chat, file transfers, group chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification, direct connection (AIM), proxy support, encrypted messaging (AIM/ICQ), SMS support, tabbed chatting, system-tray notifications and alerts, and privacy settings.
Version 3.1.11.0 is a maintenance release and resolves a security bug.

Version: Trillian 3.1.11
"Good program, no lag, AIM and IRC in 1 place"
Pros: Not laggy, combines AIM and IRC in one place very convienent
Cons: File transfers on aim doesn't always work
Summary: Not a bad program, it's a good idea to combine all my communications in one but again the file transfers on AIM are very unreliable on trillian and doesn't work most of the time
-
Version: Trillian 3.1.11
Pros: Ability to make "notes" for contacts. (I put a link to their profile if I met them online, for easy reference.)
Cons: No support for MySpace IM.
-
Version: Trillian 3.1.11
"BETTER THAN THE REST ESP. YIM!"
Pros: It's FREE, no banner & pop-up ads like Yahoo! It's universal.
Cons: Doesn't actually log you into Yahoo E-mail, you need to type the PW yourself, one good thing that YIM always did! You can't skin it; well, not very easily; like the old versions of YIM (5.6 & older), could be!
Summary: Well, it's the lesser of 2 evils I suppose! In a perfect world.....
-
Version: Trillian 3.1.11
Pros: supports MSN,Yahoo,AIM,ICQ,Jabber,IRC and Rendezvous(in the pro-version)-nice look because of many skins, plenty Pluggins(only Pro-version), easy to use & the best of all--Itz FREE(the basics)!!!!
Cons: pluggins works only in pro-version, most of the skins working only for older Trillian versions and didn't work in newer versions
Summary: best chat-client! If you want more you need the pro-version, but itz worth the money. Go for it!

Version: Trillian 3.1.11
"Less invasive than AOL's IM - I like it fine so far!"
Pros: Pretty easy to set up - doesn't take over everything in your computer.
Doesn't permanently lock itself in your start up folder like AOL's IM.Cons: A little confusing trying to set up only one product (IM) vice all the listed ones. No biggie tho.
Summary: So far, so good.
