It can help you find and compare hotel costs, but this uneven program's options for other travel comparisons didn't work for us. Travelaxe's button and display window interface can get crowded if too many tabs are opened, but most users will navigate it easily. The program automatically updates to the latest version on first run. However, many options failed to correctly load during our tests.
Travelaxe works best when comparing rates at nine common Hotel booking Web sites. Using simple pull-down menus, users merely enter hotel search criteria of city, occupants, and check-in and check-out dates. Click a button and the program quickly displays the best prices for the hotels that fit the criteria. Click the map button beside any hotel and the program displays the location on an easily scrollable city map. Unfortunately, there isn't an option to display more than one hotel concurrently. However, hotel lists are easily sorted by rating, distance from city center, Web site, and best price. One-click buttons to hotel reviews and booking sites round out features that work well. Similar functions to check airfare, rental car, and vacation prices all failed during testing.
Anyone who travels will find this app very helpful when selecting hotels. Though Travelaxe had more features that failed than functioned, you may find the hotel search alone makes this freeware worth a download.
