Version: Toad for MySQL 1
"Great start, but has some issues"
Pros: First off, I love Toad for Oracle. And the MySQL tools scene is a bit immature. So, I was excited to hear about Toad for MySQL. I downloaded it and found that it had the same Toad interface I knew. Mostly, it is a good tool, it does what it's supposed to do. Auto-completion works well and the schema tree is a big interface improvement over prior versions of Toad. But...
Cons: I found a few issues with Toad. I was using Toad 1.2. Mostly, these issues were with the basic user interface. For instance, it would often freeze and sometimes would never recover. This was especially troublesome if it was waiting for a database lock to be resolved. I even had to forcibly terminate the application a few times, which caused me to lose a lot of work. The schema comparison report is a great idea, but I found that it's rather hard to read and the interface for generating it is a bit non-intuitive. I did notice that this has changed in the 2.0 beta. I think it's a change for the better. I would love to be able to export an easy to read html report of the differences between two schemas. If the issues get resolved, this product will definitely get at least 4 stars and Quest would get my money (I'll only give a product 5 if it knocks my socks off). For now, I'm probably going to go with Navicat, which is a bit less expensive, or Squirrel SQL, which is free.
