- Fixed a problem with an inaccurate progress bar when sending a message with a uuencoded attachment.
- Fixed another crashing bug associated with pasting/moving subscribed group information.

"Best usenet reader!"
Version: Thoth 1.9.0.18
Pros
Thoth does everything a usenet reader should do and does it very well. The interface is easy to use and lots of great options. Has SSL.
Cons
No bad things, really.
Summary
The small charge for the software is well worth it! Thanks to the developer!
-
"Best usenet/binary client ever!"
Version: Thoth 1.8.5
Pros
Easy(ish) to use, extremely flexible, fast.
Cons
It appears the author will not be offering an Intel-native version; i.e., the stillborn Thoth 2.0.
-
"Great in every way!"
Version: Thoth 1.8.5
Pros
Very Maclike and a classic Mac App!
Cons
Nothing to criticize!
Summary
This is a great Mac App in every way!

"The least terrible of a poor bunch"
Version: Thoth 1.8.4
Pros
Relatively bug-free
Cons
Inadequate filtering, developer has attitude problems, outdated interface
Summary
No idea why v 1.84 is surfacing now. It's been around for a very long time. Years, I think. The developer is a well-known, whiney pissant who, on whim, enters and exits phases of refusing to respond to emails or offers to buy the software. This, despite frequent complaints that no one wants to buy! Be careful what you email to him or he might lock you out like Jerry Seinfeld's Soup Nazi.
The whole category of usenet client software for Mac is very poorly-served. (Maybe for Windows too!) Thoth might be considered the best of a pathetic bunch. It has an outdated interface which is, however, adequate if uninspiring.
Setting up Thoth is non-standard or, at least, non-intuitive although the on-screen notes are somewhat helpful. But setting up might take a while if you don't read those notes carefully.
Filtering is inadequate for today's usenet world. The newsgroups abound with morons and ********. To effectively deal with them, there needs to be more-sophisticated filters, perhaps a chaining option too. In the Windows world, experienced users seem to have no difficulty locking out specific morons. This is often not possible with Thoth because the morons are more-clever than Thoth is.
Re-ordering items in the Queued Transfers List window is non-standard. No undo of deletions is available.
"Mark cross-posted items as read" does not work as it should.
Thoth hides its various files obscurely. Syncing two Macs is difficult and time-consuming. Thoth needs to keep track of several things ? newsreader server details, personalities, groups to read, items requested to be downloaded, filters. It would be a big help if they were all stored together in a preferences file that can be easily found, amended, copied to another machine.
There are not a lot of usenet newsreaders for the Mac. Some people prefer others (like Hogwasher for example) but, for me, Thoth is the best of a poor bunch. I've tried Hogwasher and I don't like it at all. I just wish BC would bring Thoth into the 21st century (AKA OSX) with, say, version 2, a proper manual, a bright, attractive interface and preferences that are easier to manage. -
"still the best"
Version: Thoth 1.8.3
Summary

I've been using this reader for over ten years (it was YA-NewsWatcher) and it's better than ever. I've tried all the others and I always end up back with Thoth. I'll keep using it until it becomes extinct. It is a shame that it is no longer available for purchase. I hope the developer changes his mind about that some day. Thanks for the updates Brian. -

Thanks so much for Thoth 1.8.3. It is still the best Mac Newsreader. Should you ever decide to release Thoth 2.0, I would gladly buy it again. -
"Still The King Of NewsReaders But No SSL"
Version: Thoth 1.8.2

Thatis a feature I would love to see in Thoth! Unfortunately there are not enough users willing to pay more for Brian to develop it further. I certainly would having loved Thoth (and it's companion PTAH) from the inception of these great Apps. -
"More Thoth"
Version: Thoth 1.8.1
Summary

Have used Thoth since inception, and it is the best there is. I wouldn't want to travel the newsgroups without it, and am glad there's a update, downloaded just fine, hopefully a foretelling of ones to come... -
