Thanks to its easy-to-use interface, this free file compression tool makes it a snap to unzip files.
The Extractor opens with a panel-style interface that is clear-cut enough for all users to understand. We especially liked the drag-and-drop functionality that let us quickly add ZIP and RAR files. We also like that the user specifies the output file. Once we clicked Go, the program instantly unzipped our file and placed the contents into our designated output folder. Our favorite feature was the Preset option that let us assign a preset task for each output folder after unzipping the file. The preset tasks included keeping folders, subfolders, and covers. If you don't want to assign presets, you can manually apply the same folder options. The Help feature is pretty simplistic and doesn't have search capabilities, but it does walk you through the program.
The fact that this functional file compression program is freeware makes it all the more appealing. We recommend it for all user levels. It cleanly uninstalled from our PC.

Version: The Extractor 1.4
Pros: It works great! The navigation looks complicated, but it's not.
I travel around a lot and use many different computers with different OS; like today, I'm using a PC with Windows ME on it. My absolute favorite extracting program, Extract Now (also free), doesn't work on anything below Windows 2000. So this is a great alternative!
Cons: The instructions are a bit vague. If you want the zip or rar files to be deleted after the program has extracted the files, click on "Clean Up" on the General Options panel, located on the main program window.

Version: The Extractor 1.4
Pros: It's easy and it works. I wanted a simple free programme successfully to extract and join RAR files without having to pay for Winace or others or get the hateful ads on the free version of Winace. The Extractor does exactly what I wanted it to.
Cons: It's not hugely intuitive, but there's nothing wrong with it that a little concentration won't fix.

Version: The Extractor 1.4
"If you download RAR files, this is for you."
Pros: In a nutshell, this program is a little tricky to get used to. Once you do, you will be extravting and compressing RAR files easily
Cons: Unfortunately it has the ugly look of older programs and the user interface is quite basic, room for improvement for this one.
