Version: TextAloud 2.274
Pros: Balance cost - benefit. The Firefox add-on.
Cons: To be really useful you have to invest in other voices.
-
Version: TextAloud 2.274
Pros: Easy to use,
its a nice tool
Cons: a particular user won't need it, its not a program which is necessary
the extra 'AT&T' voices are not free to download

"It has a "faulting" cadence to it."
Pros: It does a good job of recognizing words
Cons: It will not download my.doc files. I eed to copy them in order for them to be read.

Version: TextAloud 2.274
Pros: When used with AT&T Natural Voices (Mike and Crystal) - a separate purchase - this program rocks! Unlike every other computer engine and voice I have tried, Crystal sounds like a real person, not like computer-generated speech. I have used this program for almost 2 years and love it! The accuracy of pronunciation is very high. Errors are quite rare, and only occur with 1) words whose pronunciation vary depending on the context, and 2) words that are seldom used. Nextup/TextAloud gives a discount if you buy AT&T's (or other) voices at the same time you buy the TextAloud program.
Cons: The basic speech engine in TextAloud sounds like a computer-generated voice. If you expect TextAloud to sound like a real human without buying advanced voices, you'll be disappointed.

Version: TextAloud 2.274
"An intermediate technology..."
Pros: Good install, clean inter-face, easy to use, open all file types as stated, including pfd files, which most similar software cannot do.
Cons: The speech technology is lousy! Real choppy and distorted voice, and even the adjustment features do not help clarify the vocals. It would give you a terrible headache if you decide to go through anymore than a few pages of texts!
Summary: Save your money and buy another software with better speech technology built-in.
