"Not very stable"

TeraCopy would have been an excellent product had it been a little more stable.
I have been using it for the last one year and though I enjoy using it, its unstability has led me to other file copiers. With small files (<1GB), TeraCopy works like a charm and I would happily say without doubt that it is the best. A great UI, a seamless explorer integration and decent speeds - TeraCopy got it all. However, it is with large files (>1GB) and especially operations from internal drive to external drive where TeraCopy is clueless at times. At times these crashes were so bad that my system stopped recognizing my external drive. I needed to unplug and plug in the external drive again to make explorer see it. Worse, a couple of times I had to reformat my external drive.
Though CNET has given TeraCopy a 5 star rating, I do not agree with them. Yes, with smaller files it is really good and is really easy to use. But with larger files I would suggest more stable file copiers like SuperCopier or FastCopy.

"Mediocre, might even be useless."

Might contain contain malicious registry items.

Summary

With all the nice reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. Right after install I ran a smartscan with IOBit Malwarefighter and it found 15 malicious registry items.
It is not that fast if you have i7 core, 64bit system and 8Gb DDR3 ram 1600Mhz. I didn't notice any speedups. I guess its for crappy systems.

"Doesn't copy large files in Windows8 64bit."

Pros

As a loyal Teracopy'ist for ~6years I like this program. It defined this space.
I write this as to it's abilities in Windows8 64bit.
Now it will deal with small files efficiently, and do error checking. Copies with issues can be dealt with at the end without a total loss of a copy operation. The key benefit of this program. The one that redefined this space.

Cons

It will not copy large files now. It hangs and dies a horrible death.

It is not multithreaded. An issue for large file lists or copying a whole 1TB drive to a new one.

Only CRC hash tags are calculated for file verification. This seems to be more than the most of the file copiers out there, although this is difficult to look into as each program usually doesn't say what algorithm they use. It is simply said they verify. A more extensive error checking algorithm list would be great. Perhaps the option of MD5 or higher? For a nice hash tag calculator and checker look at ExactFile, a great little program.

Summary

Stay away if you have Windows 8 64bit.

Please fix this Code Sector. You made a great product.


There are new programs out now that do alot more. I still like the ability to see the file list, and see if there where errors.
I've now switched to Nicecopier. It seems stable in Windows8. And it performs a file verification.

Of these Rich copier 4 will not work in Win8 64bit.
I also tried FastCopy ver2.11. It couldn't handle the file list I threw at it, but it would be great for copying alot of small files.
Finally Extreme Copy also seemed to be a good option, but Nicecopier is working well for me.

To copy a whole hard drive I'm now using Acronis True Image 2013. Its stable and no errors when I check it with ExactFile. Exact file is a great hash tag calculator.

Can create a portable version using this installer

Cons

Could be easier to understand
Does not support Windows 8 as of today
NOTE: I tried it on Windows 8 and there are substantial problems. It is not reliable.

"Very Fast in copy"

2. We can manage list of data which are coping by tera copy
3. We can Delete any item from the list

"Fails miserably on large copy operations; MEMORY HOG!"

Pros

At least the percentage completed is more accurate given it is based on the amount of data copied versus the number of files copied. That is, 124MB of 348MB (of 14,000 files) is a different percentage than 9,840 of 14,000 files, especially, for example, when file #13,999 could be 348MB of the total 350MB to be copied.

Cons

This app is exceedingly poorly written. Its code for RAM & I/O management is, by far, the most egregious of code I've seen.

What's missing is usage of a managed index file (MIF) of files & folders to be copied.

Reasonable intelligent I/O & data management needs to be implemented.

Specifically, rather than loading the entire list of files into RAM, store the list of files/folders to be copied in a MIF. Read in only those files needing to be displayed within the File List grid. Disk I/O usage would be acceptable. Record the copy status also within MIF and then merely "read in" 25,000 rows at a time to then "export"/save to the (requested) report file.

I have a screen shot showing 1.5GB RAM in use for 2,089,490 files. Only 61.1% complete (1,163,204 of 2,089,490 files). That's a lot of RAM.

Could I write a better app? Yes.
Will I write a better app? Dunno ... I don't have the time to do such in the near future. Then, again, necessity is the mother of invention.

"Great for copying multiple files, but."

Easy to use, good visibility, reliable

needs a confirmation box option
Needs an undo
needs a session log

Summary

It is really a great little application. I just switched mice and am now using a touch pad and all too frequently grab hold of a directory and move it then have trouble finding it. An undo would be very helpful but so would better visibility of what is being moved where; folder or file for those times when an unintentional move is made.
