Digital music is all well and good, but who wants to type in album and artist information for each track? With the free TagScanner, you don't have to. This efficient and powerful tag editor lets you edit metadata automatically as well as by hand, both for individual files and file batches.
The automatic tagging feature is most impressive. Although it can hit up online databases such as FreeDB, Discogs, and Amazon like many other auto-tagging apps, it can also generate tags from file and folder names--something many others can't. It works in the opposite direction, too, generating filenames from tags.
TagScanner has an elegant and orderly interface, and lets you preview filenames before applying changes. The only catch is that you'll need to spend some time learning the program's file- and tag-naming language. However, if you have thousands of music tracks crying out for organization, that's a small price to pay.

"The tool that fixes all my ID tags in mp3 files"
Pros: Small, fast, extremely powerful and free!
Cons: There is no cons
-
Version: TagScanner 5.0.532
"Great for getting MP3 file names into a uniform format"
Pros: Easy to use and doesn't crash
Cons: Minor - some of the controls don't remember their settings
Summary: I have used a bunch of tools over the years to manage my extensive collection of recordings and this is one of the best tools I have come across.

Version: TagScanner 5.0.532
"Very easy to use & works with Windows 7"
Pros: * Autonumber tracks
* Easy to make global settings to tracks (e.g, album name, genre, etc.)
* It's a breeze embedding JPG into all or a single track
* Better than anything else I have seen
* Small/lightweight app
* Works with Window 7
* FREECons: A quick tutorial online video may help some new users get up and running faster but I was able to get working without it.
Summary: If you want to get your music's tags (meta-data) organized quickly & efficiently, TagScanner is a must to at least try. It is freeware but I would pay for it and I own several other apps are capable but not as quick and easy to use.

Version: TagScanner 5.0.532
"Very flexible and easy to use"
Pros: This can update MP3 ID3 tags one at a time, or an entire folder all at once. It can also rename the file based on the information found in the ID3 tag.
Cons: The only thing I don't like about this program is that I didn't find it sooner.
Summary: The information used to update the ID3 can come from the file's name or even the folder name (I get the year from one of the folder names in the tree, the album name from its subfolder)
When renaming the file, so many options are availabl... read more >> -
