CNET Editors' review
Digital music is all well and good, but who wants to type in album and artist information for each track? With the free TagScanner, you don't have to. This efficient and powerful tag editor lets you edit metadata automatically as well as by hand, both for individual files and file batches.
The automatic tagging feature is most impressive. Although it can hit up online databases such as FreeDB, Discogs, and Amazon like many other auto-tagging apps, it can also generate tags from file and folder names--something many others can't. It works in the opposite direction, too, generating filenames from tags.
TagScanner has an elegant and orderly interface, and lets you preview filenames before applying changes. The only catch is that you'll need to spend some time learning the program's file- and tag-naming language. However, if you have thousands of music tracks crying out for organization, that's a small price to pay.

"Doesn't seem to help iTunes organization"
Version: TagScanner 5.0.530
Pros
After a few minutes, this turned out to be a very easy to use program.
Cons
Doesn't seem to help organize iTunes.
Summary
After using this on about 1000 songs, I imported the songs to a new iTunes library. Many of the tags were not displayed, such as album artist and year. This could be blamed on iTunes. Whatever the case, this did not solve my problem. Updating files on a networked drive, using wireless to get to it, caused the program to not respond.

"Not surprised to see it as a top ranked music mngmnt ap"
Version: TagScanner 5.0.530
Pros
This software has top ranks among music management software downloads & for a good reason: it?s a great ap.
Cons
Takes a bit of time to get used. Not a big problem though. If you?re a new user it?s best to first experiment with duplicate audio files. Otherwise you?ll be sorry. The software is great. Just needs experimenting first before editing actual files.
Summary
This March 2009 version is better than the previous one. I first used it to edit "stubborn" gospel CDs that couldn't load album info that would be used in the ID3 tags of the MP3 converted files.
This time I used it to change the genre of batch (multiple) files for easier sorting on portable players.
To change genre just click on the TAG Editor icon, load the files you wish to edit and add the Genre you want for the songs. -

"Awesome, the best complement for mp3 library."
Version: TagScanner 5.0.530
Pros
Rename all your mp3 archives with the ID3, move them where you want. If you use winamp (autotag feature) is the best complement, great for netbooks.
Cons
None after 2 months of use.
Summary
Excellent for use with winamp.
