- Version reviewed: TagScanner 5.0 build 511
Digital music is all well and good, but who wants to type in album and artist information for each track? With the free TagScanner, you don't have to. This efficient and powerful tag editor lets you edit metadata automatically as well as by hand, both for individual files and file batches.
The automatic tagging feature is most impressive. Although it can hit up online databases such as FreeDB, Discogs, and Amazon like many other auto-tagging apps, it can also generate tags from file and folder names--something many others can't. It works in the opposite direction, too, generating filenames from tags.
TagScanner has an elegant and orderly interface, and lets you preview filenames before applying changes. The only catch is that you'll need to spend some time learning the program's file- and tag-naming language. However, if you have thousands of music tracks crying out for organization, that's a small price to pay.

Version: TagScanner 5.0 build 511
Cons: Would really like an online user manual. Am still waiting for someone in the group to tell me how to use it.l

Version: TagScanner 5.0 build 511
Pros: This is by far the best tag manager I have tried. I have a huge library and this makes life a breeze, well, relatively anyway.

Version: TagScanner 5.0 build 511
Pros: TagScanner has a cool interface which you'd find very pleasant to the eyes. Its simplicity also makes it more attractive. You need not any fancy knowledge of computers to use this one. It's the most useful program of this kind that I've used.

"Not the most intuative product...."
Pros: Design interface looks modern.
Cons: Not immediately easy to get started with
-
Version: TagScanner 5.0 build 511
Pros: Powerful renaming functions, batch renaming and removal of fields, etc. This was the best program I could find several years ago. I recently upgraded to version 5 and was pleasantly surprised to see that it has got easier to use. Big time saver.
Cons: If you move folders around while the program is open, remember to do a rescan to refresh the folders for the program (not really a con). Wish it did album art too. Great program.
