"It can be the right program for you"

June 01, 2015  |  By RoundER18

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 14.5.1.37

Pros

+Excellent active optimization - Get more out of your system from your CPU, RAM, and hard disk (SSD included)
+Really solves other problems that other similar utilties cannot find
+Does increase your performance (Has a nice drive defragment tool)

Cons

-Old and unchanging interface (Could use a new, modern look for easier navigation for users)
-Antivirus included with the suite is horribly and still needs a lot of work
-Netbooster doesn't really do any noticeable increase with your internet connection
-Iolo Technical Support is not reliable as they can't help you (in my experience) with problems with their software on the computer. If you're looking for tech support, iolo is not the place to be.
-Can corrupt your windows 8, 8.1 installation files on your hard disk. Found this out the hard way when trying to do a PC refresh.
-Driver Updater isn't very accurate or efficient.
-Does not fix drive errors permanently (I don't know about you guys but, everytime I do a scan it appears I always have a drive error even if that not a case: and this was on a SSD).

Summary

[Note: I am a former user who paid for IOLO until last year December 2014. I say former because I couldn't afford it afterwards.)

This program can be a hit or miss with users: works either best on some, worse on others. The only thing I can tell you is to have a backup of your system and try it out yourself to see if it works for you and your system.
So far my experiences with it so far were good despite the many cons I listed.
I have tried this on many machines running Windows 7 and 8 in my home.
I only had 1 annoying problem on windows 7 home premium x64 (UI was messed up for some reason; couldn't use the program), and the most severe was on my windows 8.1 gaming laptop (Iolo messed up my windows 8 installation files-that gave me a headache for two weeks).

That said, I will not recommend this product to average users unless they know what they are getting into and have made apropriate backups. While the tools they included in the suite may/can cause future problems in a long run that is your choice to use it or not.
What I actually love and approve of this product was the PROS I listed above.
I had a G750JX Gaming laptop. The improvements made to the active optimization features on the suite really made my gaming experience wonderful. I once removed iolo just to see, and notice a drop in the general performance of my laptop.

The recent under the hood improvements seem to focus on that aspect of the suite which I really like. I believe if they update the rest of the tools found in their suite (which I suspect they have not updated in a long time), and have a dedicated support and feedback forum, this would be one of the great Paid products out there.

Conclusion: Backup your system, trial run it, and give it a spin if you feel like you have enough technical knowledge to risk it.

"Constantly requires my computer to restart"

March 31, 2015  |  By felicidoo

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 14.0.1.52

Pros

None. This did not complete installation, as it was constantly requiring me to restart the computer.

Cons

...see "Pros"

Summary

This program downloaded quickly. However, when I tried to launch it, I was prompted to restart my computer. Every time I restarted, the program would repeat the restart request. I was never able to use this program.

"My computer is much faster now."

February 04, 2015

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 14.0.1.52

Pros

-easy to use
-works well and has made my computer faster

Cons

-I do not have any at this time

Summary

It is a god product for the price compared to similar software. I was able to save 50% on System Mechanic with a code I found at http://couponcause.com/stores/iolo-coupons/ so that was pretty helpful.

"Possibly the best tuneup software I have ever purchased"

November 30, 2014

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 14.0.1.52

Pros

1. Superb performance
2. Intelligent and fast optimization
3. Rock stable: for 1.5 years of use
4. Reasonably priced with lots of features

Cons

Not found anything after 1.5 years of usage

Summary

I am using pro version from june 2013 in my custom gaming rig with win7 home premium. I was previously using Advanced system care pro for around 8 months though I am not disappointed with it but System Mechanic is better than ASC and my rig is running smooth and have not faced any problem like others have stated. I would definitely recommend it to any windows user who wants to keep their pc in proper condition and avoid system clutter. Overall I feel this is a must have software for Windows 7.

"Not good with preinstalled windows platforms"

November 22, 2014

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 14.0.1.52

Pros

easy to install

Cons

Causes freezes, will not correct driver errors, causes programs to stop (you want running). Will not always run. (THE worst), after running and receiving "0" problems>>go to IOLO's site and running their: Free PC check>>NOTE: all the problems listed!! You can NOT completely deleted program from your system>>>BEWARE!!! Always being informed to buy more time!!

Summary

If I could completely remove "System Mechanic" I would!! I would recommend installing CCleaner!! Had prior on old computer (no problems) with my new computer I thought "System Mechanic " was the "Best of the Best" which it is NOT!!

"Can't give a lower rating"

November 09, 2014  |  By bdaniel230

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 14.0.1.52

Pros

When it is first installed it seems to work great

Cons

Updates are flaky.
Can remove drivers that are in use
If it crashes it causes Windows to become corrupted to the point it must be reinstalled and possibly a complete format (make sure you have all install disks and a good backup)

Summary

Quite possibly the worst utility I have ever had the misfortune of installing. I received a trial with some Micron memory I purchased and it went down hill from there. I actually was stupid enough to buy the subscription. The first update failed and I received NO HELP from IOLO. I actually had a fairly recent backup but in order to get this garbage off my system I had to swap out the hard drive and reinstall windows and restore from a backup.
I am unable to sufficiently describe the negative and ambivalent feelings I have toward IOLO and their garbage software.
If you are smart you won't use this crap.

Updated on Nov 9, 2014

After reading the positive reviews I come to only one conclusion. Either the 5 star reviews are written by people with extremely great luck or they are phony. I had similar experience with the people that had their registry ruined and disk corrupted. I don't believe that my three machines could all have had the same issue at the same time if it weren't from the same cause. The Update to System Mechanic from IOLO. And I had the same lack of support as others.
I can't say it strongly enough, this is terrible software (I use the term software loosely as it is more firmware and can't be completely uninstalled even using the extensive uninstall methods from Iolo Support) and if you put it on your system be prepared to go it alone from that point on. Windows support won't help, Iolo support is comprised of morons reading from a card they don't understand, and the solutions all point to replacing your OS if not your disk.

"Can i give negative stars? HORRIBLE STAY AWAY"

July 08, 2014  |  By innerweb

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 12.7.0.43

Pros

gives you something to do for the next week trying to restore your computer after this "software" destroys your registry and renders your backups unusable.

Cons

well this is about as bad as software can get. not only does it not do what it promises but it in fact destroys your system. by rendering your registry not just empty but unreadable, it does a better job than any malware or virus out there of destroying the very thing you're trying to save by downloading it. irresponsible programmers like this should be jailed.

Summary

worse than bad. i would love to meet up (in a dark alley) with the ***holes who wrote this program and the jerks who put fake positive reviews here. come on CNET get your act together. people trust you to weed out the bad software. you really dropped the ball on this one.

Updated on Jul 8, 2014

anyone know of a good program to pull data off of a dead machine? tried ultimate boot disk and it is sort of working but slow and tedious.

did i mention this software is bad?

"Not to shabby"

June 21, 2014  |  By Ed Sterling

 |  Version: System Mechanic Free 12.7.0.43

Pros

I have been running System Mechanic paid version for number of years with no complaints. It brought and old XP system back to life, I also run it on a Vista system and Windows 7. I like it better then CC Cleaner with its has a vast assortment of features.

Cons

The load up to run is a bit slow.
