As with any machine, your PC needs regular tune-ups to maintain peak performance. This virtual toolbox can enhance the speed, safety, and power of your computer with a wide range of functions and an extensive help system.
System Mechanic performs cleanup, optimization, and privacy protection with equal agility. As with similar tune-up utilities, it enables you to clean up your registry, remove junk files, and customize hidden settings to improve performance. The app has additional tools for removing spyware and for defragmenting your hard drive, eliminating the need for multiple utility programs. There is an undo function that restores your system to its previous state, but its hidden in the SafetyNet tab and doesn't allow you to bring back one item at a time. The program also lacks a system profiler.
The bottom line, however, is that System Mechanic is one of the most complete, effective, and easy-to-use tune-up utilities we've seen to date.

"Big advertisement for poor results"
Pros: This mapa cleaner is one of the most advertised applications, but the results are very poor. Out of around 80 registry problems on my system it only found 3 (yes, believe it) while the other ones found 65 - 75 problems.
Cons: However, today we could choose the "RegistryEasy", the "Registry Repair", "TuneUp Utilities", "XP Registry Cleaner", "PC Repair" and the excellent (and totaly FREE) Eusing Free Registry Cleaner"...
Which position this mapa "cleaner" could have among the above good names? None. It took a position within my dustbin.
They advertise it so, so much searching for suckers...

1. Clean

- Get rid of system junk: search for files having extension like .bak I have an app that use *.bak files to save temporary data into a database. If I run this tool I will certainly lose a lot of data ...
- Clean up your tracks: stupid and childish ! A FREE program like CCleaner has more options than this tool.
- Stop web popups: There are FREE popups blockers all over the net. Those days are more popup blokers than popup windows :)
- Uninstall software: You can do this from Start -> Control Panel -> Add remove programs ...

2. Fix

- Fix registry problems: I do not recomend to anyone to automaticaly "clean" the Windows registry. I am a programmer and I have to say some words about registry. This is nothing else but a hudge database, a place where a windows program can save any data like program options. When the program run again, the program expect to find there the information saved into this database. The data in registry depends on every program you have intalled. There is no way another program can be 100% sure if a information in windows registry is safe to delete or not.
- Recover deleted data: There are no options to recover corupted or deleted partitions like in a profesional recovery program (for example Get Data Back). But there are still some interesting features. I have created one folder C:\test and one file C:\test\test.txt on a fat32 partition. I deleted test.txt. I have selected "Advanced deleted file search" and I have specified the directory to search in. NOTHING WAS FOUND. What to say more ...

3. Maintain

- Utility bar: Now tell me how can you speed up your computer if you add another program running in memory, nothing but a taskbar clone... ?
- Relocate software: Bad ideea. There are programs who save into Windows registry or into their files informations about the program location. If you try to move such a program you will probably ruin that program.

4. Optimize

- Manage Windows startup : There is already a tool wich comes up with Windows (Start->Run-> write "msconfig" and press enter) that does the same job.
- Tweak Windows settings : Clicking on this tool I saw the following error message "Invalid data Type for InteliMenus" ...
- Speed up har drives : Windows comes up with Disk Defragmenter (Start->Programs->Accessories->System tools->Disk Defragmenter). The only diffrence from Windows defrag is the hudge time neded to perform such a defragmentation ...
- Defragment memory : Who have time for this ?! After running 3 or 4 programs the memory will be fragmented again. The best sollution is to buy 512 or more MB ram or to restart your OS from time to time ...

5. Protect

- After a quick scan for spywares, nothing was detected. Later, running the free Ad-Aware personal and another free program Spyboot - Search and Destroy I have founded a couple of spywares...
This product is one of the most advertised system utility on the market. You can read about happy people pretending their operating system was saved by Registry Mechanic and is now working 3 times faster... It looks more like a teleshopping channel trying to sell stupid things for credulous people.
Stop dreaming like this ! Every advanced computer user I know does not use those kind of tools. Why ? The answer is simple : because every advanced user has ruined the OS in the past using a registry cleaner!
I am on that list too.
The best solution is a fresh instaled operating system and the use of a program to make a backup of your entire operating system from time to time. I always have a image of the last installed OS. Restoring the fresh os only takes 5 minutes...
Think and judge for yourself. Maybe I am wrong maybe I am not. But I certainly belive this product is a very big soap bubble. It looks so big and so interesting at the first side but will turns into nothing at a closer look.

Version: System Mechanic 6.0u
Pros: This program has almost every utility to enhance system performance. Registry cleaner, defrag, internet optimizer, disk repairer the list goes on. When you first open the program it will check your system and see if certain areas need attention, which i thought was great. Also has tips which tell you if a certain program hant been run in 'x' amount of days. The disk repairer also stopped files from becoming corrupt on my harddisk.
Cons: Bit buggy, some tools will sit on 0% for along time. Program is fairly pricy when you can get free programs which do the same thing.

"Saves Computers from Crashing!!!"
Pros: Great tools avaliable to use...Even saved my own computer from crashing!
Cons: Runs slowly. For the stuff that uses the Registry Scanner and the Cleanup Wizard, I recommend CCleaner. Only use this tool as a last resort or for the stuff that you absolutely need this program to get to.
