This straightforward backup utility makes it a snap to safeguard and synchronize your files, and its freeware price just sweetens the deal. Surprisingly flexible for a free program, SyncBack can save your files anywhere: on external hard drives, in ZIP archives, on network drives, on CDs (using UDF), or transfer them via FTP. Recovering from a drive loss is also cinch, with a convenient restore tool that replicates folder trees along with the files in them.
It lets you define multiple scheduled backup jobs so you can just set 'em and forget 'em, allowing users to create specific backup jobs for certain folders or file types. You can control the way files are compared and selected for backup: the program comes with ready-made profiles to make the process as easy as possible. It's hard not to like that SyncBack doesn't use many system resources when working in the background, and backups can be set to export their logs to an HTML file for easy viewing. All in all, it's an excellent choice for home users and small businesses.

Version: SyncBack 4.0.8
"Genuine High Quality Freeware"
Pros: SyncBack is a robust, well tested, and reliable program. I've used it for 3 years and it has always performed brilliantly.
The listing on this site at present links to the wrong file so visit the developer's site to download the freeware version (don't blame 2BrightSparks as they have no control over this). The shareware version has more bells and whistles, but for a simple and reliable backup solution you won't get better.

"Excellent freeware, but shareware version incorrectly listed by download.com"
Pros: download.com have incorrectly listed the shareware version (SyncBackSE). To download the freeware version go to their web site. They are aware of the problem (which was the fault of download.com), but download.com have yet to correct their mistake.
SyncBackSE V4.0.8 does not contain a key logger. It's a false positive by the anti-virus software which will be corrected in V4.0.9

Version: SyncBack 4.0.8
"Seems to do what it's supposed to, but..."
Pros: I got it set up and working in a few minutes, and it seemed to do its job just fine.
Cons: I downloaded it because I only need to sync once every month or two on average, and it was listed as "free" so it seemed like a good option... However, the version I got when I downloaded it was a 30-day trial, not freeware. To be fair, they do offer an older version with many fewer features on their website as actual freeware, but that's not the one that you get here, so it was a bit misleading.

Version: SyncBack 4.0.8
"Does what the Editor says...BUT..."
Cons: I did not go into great detail examining the application, but there is a major issue. It is shipped with a keylogger spyware. I installed it onto a fresh machine, and PestPatrol identified a key logger!!
