SwitchBeam extends the functionality of the Beam menu item on Palm OS applications. In some ways this simulates the Send menu item first made available in Palm OS 4.0. It accomplishes this as a system extension (sometimes called a "system hack").

This is valuable because:

  • Some smartphone users, such as the Kyocera 6035, can not upgrade to Palm OS 4.0.
  • Some applications do not provide the Send function.
  • It allows applications to send files to other applications for unintended purposes.
