"Do not download installs bloatware"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
Didn't even run after installer nightmare
Cons
Carefully read all agreements and specifically chose the custom option to not change my search engine, homepage, etc. Despite this it changed everything. Had to uninstall the bloatware from the control panel. I was so pissed off I didn't bother running the program in case it installed everything again.
Summary
Sucks!

"Malware you can't easily remove"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
None, this program does nothing that other free non-malware infected software does.
Cons
It is infected with Claro-Search / Babylon toolbar, among others. I've been able to remove a few of them but the Claro/Babylon search is persistent, and I can't get rid of it so far. DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE.
Summary
I hope CNET and Download.com will remove this offering from their server, but in the mean time trust all of us who are suggesting this is not the software for you. It's useful, but there are plenty of other free options that don't infect your PC with unwanted adware, spyware, malware, self-installing toolbars, hijackers, and other 'virus-esque' style bits of crap all over your PC.

"Avoid at all costs"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
None. The underlying code is open source ffmpeg. There are other, safe GUIs for ffmpeg, or just run ffmpeg from the command line!
Cons
Hijacks browser homepage, search engine, installs multiple toolbars.
Summary
I read the warnings about the adware/malware included with Super, but thought I was smart enough to opt-out of everything. No way. Despite checking 'decline' where ever available, Super clobbered the browser I was using (Firefox), and even one I wasn't using (IE). With such deceit, I'm not completely sure I've undone all the damage. If you must run it, use a trial version of Sandboxee.

"gives the most flexibility of all free video converters"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
more choices and options for the perfect video and audio conversions
Cons
It comes with built-in malware which can be removed. See my summary of how to avoid the malware below.
Summary
Here is a work-around the malware pre-loaded in Super:
You can still get this fine video converter and rid yourself of the malware linked to it if you take these steps:
1) Download and install Malwarbytes Free from malwarebytes.org (be careful to select the free version). There could be iterations where new definitions need to be downloaded to make the installation current. Be patient and get the current version ready. When you do eventually do the scan, be sure to specify Full Scan.
2) Download and SAVE the installation file for Super video converter DO NOT RUN IT. Follow the instructions on the eightsoft website as it is a bit convoluted (3 different pages until you get to "download Super setup file")
3) You will probably get several warnings from your anti-viral software that a threat is detected. Allow these threats...if you don't, Super will not install properly. You should now have the install file in your download folder (or wherever your download location is).
4) Go into your browser's internet options and change the security and privacy tabs to the highest level and apply settings. Now exit your browser.
5) Now execute the SUPERsetup.exe file you downloaded. Accept agreements but watch for a partially hidden panel that comes up pre-checked for Babylon tool bars. BE SURE TO UNCHECK THESE BOXES! Continue with the installation but UNCHECK THE BOX THAT ALLOWS SUPER TO LAUNCH NOW.
6) When you are done, your browser will launch with small rotating clock in the center. CLOSE YOUR BROWSER!
7) Next, run Malwarebytes and do a Full Scan. It should find 11 malwares. At the end of the scan, check each malware (PUP) and let Malwarebytes remove them. A restart will be necessary.
8) You can now launch your browser and restore your original security and privacy settings.
Super can now be launched safely -
"Just what I was looking for"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
I was looking for compression suite software that could convert my avi's to the new html5 comparable formats webM, Ogg Theora, MP4. It does all those and much more including FLV and SWF. It also covers a multitude of audio formats. It blows the doors off Miro in every respect. I could(if I had money)have spent $650 for Sorenson Squeeze and not have a better product.
Cons
I haven't had it for long but so far I see no cons so far.
Summary
I've looked through the other reviews and seen many complaints about malware and unwanted tool bars. Maybe this is something they did in the past but I haven't run into anything like that.

"one of the best FREE encoder/converter"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
just drag/drop any file and encode.
I run it on Win7 64 Quad processor, it is amazing.Cons
It installs Iminent toolbar, but after all, it was my choice to install it instead of paying $25 for another payable soft that can't even be close.
After all it isn't any different from most of the free utilities that install toolbar and search engines.Summary
STRONGLY RECOMMEND,
I simply wanted to clarify that my previous post concerns SUPER(C) from eRightSoft which is at this time at version v2012.build.51 a 50Mb file totally FREE
read a bit lower in the page you'll see this message since 2009:
"HAS MALWARE!"
October 27, 2009 | By jleesmith
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
people scream for the last 4 years about a "malware", in reality, it is either a false positive like in here:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=32466
or a toolbar which IS NOT A MALWARE as it is not flagged by any ANTIVIR
no one in here speaks about the encoding quality, all posts mention malware, and each new poster adds a second layer and so on..
Updated on Apr 20, 2012
It has absolutely nothing to do with this Super Video converter from Witcobber Software (http://www.witcobber.com) v 5.8 a 1.79MB file shareware for $29.00 -
"Used to be good, now it's filled with malware."
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
It's still free and the publisher gives ample warning about the included malware.
Cons
Installs adware, has a horrible GUI, and really is no longer worth the effort. Look elsewhere.
By the way, it tells you that it includes malware. Excerpt from the aggreement:
"Only the main GUI (Graphical User Interface) of SUPER © is written by eRightSoft. However, this installation package contains as well other executable files written by third parties. Some of these third party companies may recommend or provide advertisements about various services or may even download and install several other softwares or toolbars that replace your current browser's homepage and modify your default browser's search engine. Note that during the installation process your web browser might be launched to open and display some advertisements or related information."Summary
I used to be an avid user of this program. It was the best of its kind, before they decided to go all rogue on their consumer's computers. I am honestly ashamed of the publishers, and I would greatly enjoy them being banned from being a scourge on the internet community.
Another thing to note is that, unlike other software that includes malicious software and toolbars, it is impossible to install WITHOUT it. If you don't want malware, you don't get to install this program. -
"Ridden with Adware, please avoid"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
During its heyday, Super was an excellent no nonsense video encoder. No limits, no free trials, it just did what it said on the tin. I installed this recently and encoded a video just the same as it always did.
Cons
During the install process, it logged me out of my Windows Live Messenger and attempted to install various bits of adware on my pc, to which I duly denied.
However, there's still various bits and bats on my pc following the uninstallation of this software. I've had to remove some adware called 'Iminent' which was very annoying to remove. Shortly after installing, my Gmail alerted me that some Norwegian IP address accessed my account. I've had to change my password here.Summary
Great video encoder, but unfortunately I will never install again. eRightSoft has breached my trust with them and now I won't bother again.

"Not as good or reliable as it used to be"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
Can (supposedly) convert from a wide variety of formats to a wide variety of video and audio formats.
Cons
Download link difficult to find on stupid website.
Installs Babylon language translator, even though I unchecked it.
Fails to convert MP4 video file to anything (reports 'error').Summary
This used to be a damn good program, although always slow to open and a resources hog. The thing is, it always managed to convert files that just about everything else couldn't, so I always used to use it.
I've not done any video conversion for at least a year so downloaded the latest version on my new Windows 7 installation and loaded an MP4 video file in, but it constantly kept stopping and reporting an error, even if I followed the advice given, and even if I changed the output format. So what was once a good program is now junk; it can't convert a format as common as MP4. What makes it worse is it installs a Babylon language translator, even though I had carefully deselected it during installation.
I did some quick research on Google about any highly-rated free audio-video converters and found iWisoft Free Video Converter. Although it lacks many of the fine adjustments of Super, it leaves it standing! It has a basic video editor, plenty of preset levels, and was able to convert the MP4 that Super couldn't, and is less of a resource hog. Also, it was quick, whereas Super was always slow.
I'm about to uninstall Super; I'm finished with it for good. -
"Pretty great for the price"
Version: Super Video Converter 5.8
Pros
A noteworthy selection of formats
FREECons
Little buggy
SlowSummary
I see that other users are complaining of malware but our TMG scanned and found it to be clean. I think what they're calling "malware" are toolbars that, if you're sharp enough to read the things you're clicking on during installation, you can avoid just by unchecking.
I see other saying that you should find something else. Well, I honestly can't find anything else that comes CLOSE to doing what SUPER can while still being free.
Be a smart user and you'll be fine.
