Editor's review of Stealth Browser

- "Stealth Browser"
- Version reviewed: Stealth Browser 3
You need to know how to read HTML and JavaScript to make sense of the data this app captures, but it can help you check out Web sites before you browse. Stealth Browser's interface is simple and maddening. A pair of pull-down menus and a very basic information window makes the app easy to learn for nondevelopers. Oddly, the publisher offers no method to adjust the window size. The too-small text block and poor text formatting makes a simple task much more difficult.
Still, operating Stealth Browser is familiar ground for all users. Simply enter the desired URL and press Go. It's the multiple views that make this browser special. The default merely displays the Web page's HTML and JavaScript code. A very simple search box gives users a quick step toward finding malicious code and problem redirects. That's entirely dependent on the user's code experience. This browser doesn't give any indication what is good or bad code.
Stealth Browser offers additional specialized views. The app will directly play select multimedia files. The process is the same: just enter the URL and press Go. A simple traditional browser attempts to display Web sites in the small window. Finally, a music-links view displays an advertisement for the publisher's music.
This very specialized freeware browser will appeal to Web developers, systems administrators, and others looking to check specific Web pages for malicious code.
