Among educational programs, Starry Night Backyard ESD is one of the best in its class for astronomy software. It offers more than 1,000,000 stars and 110 deep-space objects for your viewing pleasure. Also, you can create a date-specific night sky and determine exactly where to look for an astronomical event at any given time.One of the best features of this program is its ability to display specific constellations, galaxies, and planets up close. Just choose a star, moon, or any deep-space object, and click Go There. The application will show you flying through space to your desired object up to 20,000 light-years away. What's more, you can e-mail your discoveries to your friends, family, or professor in QuickTime format, viewable on any Web browser. Both students of astronomy and regular users will find this program both educational and fun, and certainly worth the $34.95 shareware fee.
