Spyware Doctor is well-respected enough to get included in Google's software roundup, Google Pack, but like many of its ilk, its effectiveness has as much to do with your surfing habits as it does with how many threats can be picked up by the detection file.
This free app includes limited real-time protection--competitors usually hamstring their guards until you upgrade to the paid edition. Here, the OnGuard protection is limited to the File Guard, which says it prevents unsafe e-mail attachments and other malicious files already hiding on your system from being accessed.
Basic features include two kinds of scans, an "Intelli" scan and a "Full" one, as well as a third, customizable checker. There's also a scheduler, a rootkit component that can be turned off, and the usual links to other antimalware programs by the same publisher.
The Doc has control tabs on the left and the main interface panel taking up the rest of the real estate. It probably has the most intuitive layout of them all, so when you click on a tab, more options appear just next to it without cramping the main screen. Some users have complained that it's a resource hog, although this wasn't our experience. As far as its effectiveness goes, though, Spyware Doctor did us no harm.

"Totally RUBBISH, Immediately remove from this website"
Pros: New virson installed and update after updated error program come up on screen no scane no update no setting ete options have show a error report.
I have three times installed and uninstalled but repeated error is still continuously displed.
Cons: Donot trust this software, go for other

"Garbage from a deceitful company."
Pros: Anyone trusting anything by PC Tools is a fool! What this company needs is a class action law suit for against their auto renew policy, PERIOD! Your much better off buying a good one instead of scrounging for free security apps! I did!
IMAGINE THAT!!!!!!!!!!
Cons: Uninstall is dangerous & can crash your system. This is nothing more then an up front, addware app so they can con you into buying something from them! I hate this company with a passion! Why don't you get a grip & see how much your hated, PC Tools?

Version: Spyware Doctor Starter Edition 5.5
Pros: To begin with the options are very easy to grasp, i like the way you get 3 types of scans, the "intelli-scan" is class, grabs those little nasty cookies no bother. I like the way you can go to "settings/scheduled tasks" and decide when you want an automated scan to start, very simple! It doesn't hog the system as like before, the updates also you have different options. My kids play games a lot and it picks up those little hackers trying to jump on my IE7 browser. All in all just great!
Cons: Well if you want the "Free" version you need to install the Google updater, bit of a pain but hey ho. Also in the Free version the "on guard protection" is limited, but hey it's Free so can't have all ways can we? But on a tiny sour note, my AVG Free antispyware grabbed a few nasty cookies this missed, not a problem as i clean my tracks with Ccleaner when i'm done anyway!

"Stay with the version 5.0 of the Google Pack"
Pros: The Version 5.0 is better than this, so much so I unistalled the version 5.5 and REinstalled the version 5.0 which comes with the Google Pack.
Spyware Doctor Starter Edition 5.0 continues to be a solid program, IMO.
Cons: This version for some reason had the OnGuard Protection disabled all the time, which was a big loss. The Computer Immunazation was OFF all the time as well.
So stick with the version 5.0 of the Google Pack.
