This furtive spy utility monitors computer activities, though some of its features failed to function.
SpyPal's sleek, well-designed interface is password-protected and can be called out using hot keys. The program starts with a wizard that walks you through the selection of items to monitor. The wizard defaults to a predefined list of items to monitor, including the keyboard, clipboard, screenshots, popular chat clients, visited Web sites, launched documents, and applications.
You can export and view log reports in HTML format or have them automatically sent to your e-mail for remote monitoring, but the latter failed to work in testing. The application's designer suggests you check your POP connection if this happens, putting the onus on the user. Options to monitor incoming and outgoing e-mail and IM conversations were inoperative as well during assessments.
We were pleased, however, to find that SpyPal is hidden from the Add/Remove list and Start menu. Armed against PC-savvy youngsters, it can only be disabled or uninstalled from its main window. Still, the inclusion of parental controls to restrict access would've been great. You'll appreciate most of what SpyPal has to offer, although tougher spy tools are available.
