"Good detection - spots things other software misses."

Pros
Installed readily on XP. No problem with switching between users. Initial scan detected one Trojan and two Spywares, which had been missed by both SpywareDoctor and Ad-Aware. Real-time protection included.
Cons
User-interface not as good as the best. Two "false positives", though these were easily taken out of Quarantine.

Cons
The newest version (later than the one at Download.com) locked up my PC. If you try it, SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING. You may need it.

This program offers auto-quarantine and remove or allow files at my discretion. It has the most intuitive interface I've used to date. All free...plus if I want all the bells and whistles it only costs me $12.....beat that....I dare ya! Kuddo's to the chef....

It did claim to quarantine some stuff (although why not remove it?).
Cons
When I would start my computer it caused the startup pages to be blank and a dozen or more boxes would pop up and have to be erased, saying various .dll and .exe images were corrupted. No problem uninstalling it, though.

it WILL remove spyware the others won't; but at what price?

If they would have allowed a negative value for the rating, I would have given it! I am a computer tech, and have used this on several of the computer's I've worked on; while it HAS removed infestations other anti-spyware software failed to remove, it also has caused many video instabilities, and other issues with the installation. REMOVING this software is akin to trying to remove some of the most tenacious spyware, as it won't remove registry tags. AVOID!

The "Protector" software that stays in memory and monitors spyware activity has a serious sideeffect - every 3-5 minutes your computer stutters and if you're playing music, this is really really annoying. Quit the Protector, and all is well, but no more spyware protection for Quarantined spyware.
can be dangerous if you remove something that's not spyware.

Price (free) but would consider $20 full version. Also like the real time protection feature
Cons
Lack of a user forum to discuss things Spycatcher finds. I keep getting a single root kit trying to install each time I go online. I deny it, and everything works fine but I've run other malicious software removal tools and there are no root kits on my system. Would like a forum to discuss things like this with other users.

A great product for power users, beginners might misuse its features and cause themselves trouble, but I love the fact that it locates all these "suspicious" files that I then spend hours researching before deciding how to handle them. I haven't had one negative experience, it's all good, but you have to pay attention! Scans are fast.
Cons
After a scheduled scan I'd rather that the program not leave a huge window on my desktop. It scares my wife... Other than that no real con.

Got rid of all the spyware and adware that Ad-Aware could not. Went deeper than any before it, and it even scanned my external drive. And it's free!!
Cons
You get more features if you pay for the upgrade, but that's a minor detail. I'll just enjoy the free version for now.
