SnagIt allows users to capture, manage, manipulate, and print images, text, and video. Users are given the option to capture an entire screen, a window, or an arbitrary selection. SnagIt features support for capturing menus, the entire contents of scrolling windows, DOS screens, and desktop-animation sequences. It also includes tools for processing image brightness, contrast, hue, sharpness, scale, color reduction, and color substitution. SnagIt can convert most text blocks on the desktop to machine-readable text when cut-and-paste operations don't work. Additional features include a DDE (direct data entry) interface and a thumbnail browser. Also included is an audio-recording option during video capture, transparent GIF support, enhanced menu capture, and dual-monitor support for Windows 98.

Version 6.0 allows you to capture JPEG, GIF, and PNGs. These images can be captured all at one time and stored on your computer. You can now capture DirectX related content, such as games and DVD output. There is an enhanced capture preview window to allow zooming in and out of images, and also an improved region selection tool and grid display option. You can now capture layered windows, which is a new style of window used on Windows 2000 and Windows XP for translucent and irregular shaped windows. There are also many more features and enhancements in SnagIt 6.0. Version 6.0.1 is a maintenance release that features vairous unspecified improvements.
