Converting FLV files you've saved or found on the Internet to other formats--MP3, AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF, WAV, MOV, and iPod--is a breeze with this user-friendly tool. Unfortunately, the demo version converts only 70 percent of any file until you purchase the registered version.

Smart FLV Converter Pro launches a compact but slightly busy interface that is still understandable and very function-driven. To help novices, contextual help boxes pop up from each button in the order they should be used: Add File, Output Format, Convert. Very simple.

This utility functioned very well in our tests, converting formats very quickly. We liked the contextual help boxes, and the simplicity it offered in configuring an output formats' video Codec, bit rate, frame size, and so on. Clearly this app was designed with the novice in mind, for selecting output quality is just a matter of moving a slider bar. Another nice touch is that we could select an output folder right from the main interface, not through a dialog box, so we could change destination folders on the fly.

Certainly Smart FLV Converter Pro's ease of use will appeal to many videophiles. The demo version's 70 percent limit will frustrate many, and the price may scare off a few more, but there are plenty of users who will appreciate this utility's simplicity and quick responsiveness.
