SlapShot is a fun, addictive twist on the classic air hockey game. The gameplay is simple and easy to learn, yet tricky to master. Just as in real air hockey, the object is to score goals to win. You control the mallet/striker with the mouse. There are 10 skill levels to master and two gameplay modes: Classic and Extreme, which has pickups. The pickups do various things, such as shrinking or growing the mallets or goals, and splitting the puck in two for some mayhem. Classic games go up to 10 points, and Extreme games go up to 15. Five tables have slightly different feels and are either faster or slower or have bouncy walls or different, colorful graphics. There is also a selection of mallets and pucks.

Enjoyable old-school arcade action comes to the desktop with SlapShot Air Hockey. You can play the game in Classic or Extreme modes. In Classic, you play a realistic round of air hockey against a computerized opponent to seven points. The Extreme version mixes it up with Arkanoid-style tricks. Sometimes an extra puck appears, and power-ups start appearing on the middle line. Some make your mallet bigger, and others widen your opponent's goal. Of course, if your opponent beats you to the power-up, your own goal will get wider. The graphics aren't outstanding, but they don't need to be. This simple game is extremely addictive.

  Summary: fun, old school style gameplay. average graphics, some nice effects with speed trails on the bats and pucks. nice physics, good framerate, really fast, and fun to play, slick

  "Not very smooth..."

  Summary: The movement is not very smooth at all. The striker frequently "stuck", particularly when passing just in front of the goal. I have a powerful computer with plenty of RAM and processor speed, etc., so I don't believe it's a problem with my system.... read more >>
