Getting in touch with friends and family is easy with this Internet telephone software, but the functionality is conditional. Skype offers a graphically pleasing interface that's much like a chat program. To make calls, you'll need to create a contact list of friends and family or use the phone-like interface to dial people directly. You also can access a pull-down menu for painless conference calls of up to four people. To make free calls, both parties will need to have the Skype software installed. To call regular phones, you'll need to sign up for a plan with SkypeOut, the developer's paid service that offers cheap by-the-minute calling. We like the intuitive chat-like interface of Skype and we were surprised at the excellent sound quality, even with regular desktop speakers. Similar to a chat client, you can set your availability status, but we also would like to see a missed call indicator or, better yet, some form of voice mail. Overall, we think Skype is a strong contender in the Internet Telephony category, and anyone who's interested in talking for free should give it a try. For international callers who have computers, this program is a no-brainer solution for long-distance bills. Watch the CNET video review of Skype:

Version: Skype 1.3.0.57
Pros: *Free calls to all Skype users in the world.
*They have a prepaid service with low rates if you want to call regular phone numbers.
*You can send SMS, leave Voicemail if your contact is not online etc etc. Many features.
*With group voice conversations you can talk to many people at the same time.
*They even have Skype for Pocket PC which allows me to use this great program on my PDA as well.
Cons: *It doesn't support multiple user settings well on the same PC. Nothing major but probably they'll fix it in the future realeases.
*It's not popular. Most people are still using the MSN or Yahoo Messengers.

Version: Skype 1.3.0.57
Pros: Nothing NOT to like.I use it constantly. Originally paid 10 Euro's for international calls and after speaking to people in the USA (from Australia) for about an average of 3 hours all told i am still 7 Euro's in credit.
Cons: Only one complaint. There are times when you are disconnected without warning. This happened to me during 1 call SIX times. But i can handle that if it's not a continuing problem, which it hasen't been at this stage.
