This handy extension for Internet Explorer makes a great addition to your Web security arsenal. SiteAdvisor draws from an enormous database of Web sites that have been checked out for spyware threats, malicious cookies, and questionable marketing ploys. Sitting quietly at the bottom of your browser, SiteAdvisor indicates the safety rating of your current site. Green is for safe sites, yellow for sites with some questionable practices, and red for particularly dangerous sites. The color-coded rating system also annotates your Google and Yahoo search results, providing advance warning of potential drive-by spyware installation and other dangers. An available online breakdown shows what kind of testing underpins the danger assessments. We also like the extensive site profiles with user ratings, which allow you to check out a site before risking a visit. In some cases, SiteAdvisor errs on the side of caution, labeling sites as dangerous because of minor infractions, but these are few and far in between. This free extension is an obvious choice for IE users who want better Web security.Publisher's description

Version: SiteAdvisor 1.2.0.35 build 2689
Cons: I do NOT trust SiteAdvisor at all. It is useless.
I looked up their review of downLOAD.com, and it is far too generous. The following is a quote from their review.
"In our tests of this site, a very small percentage of its many downloads contained adware or other unwanted programs. However, download.com prohibits these programs and removes them when found."
That is a very misleading statement. True it clearly mentions bundled adware, but it refers to the occasional TROJAN bundled in the junk they offer, as "other unwanted programs". It also overlooks the obvious inference that downLOAD.com does not screen their listed software themselves. Yes, they will remove infected downloads, usually but not always, but they do so only after people like me tell them they should!
Another problem is that the advisory offered is based in part upon "user comments", and here is a C&P of one of their user comments.

Rating: This site is good
One of the best download sites. I trust anyrhing I download from download.com

-------------------------------
When "user comments" can be submitted by shills, or the wide eyed uninformed, then they WILL soon become just as misleading as the "user reviews" at download.com.
The Siteadvisor review of download.com, also fails to mention that downLOAD.com does not consider dot.net to be spyware, and neither does it mention that a significant percentage of their advertisements link directly to adware and spyware sites, including the homepages of known rouge antispyware vendors.
The SiteAdvisor is IMO, just another pretty face painted on an ugly reality, in the traditional spirit of corporate disinformation.
Just my stupid opinion.

Pros: It tells what sites are good and bad, and it can probably save your computer from getting infected by those sites that install stuff into your computer without you knowing it.
Cons: some sites were rated bad when they really weren't, but after that not a lot of cons
