This handy extension for Internet Explorer makes a great addition to your Web security arsenal. SiteAdvisor draws from an enormous database of Web sites that have been checked out for spyware threats, malicious cookies, and questionable marketing ploys. Sitting quietly at the bottom of your browser, SiteAdvisor indicates the safety rating of your current site. Green is for safe sites, yellow for sites with some questionable practices, and red for particularly dangerous sites. The color-coded rating system also annotates your Google and Yahoo search results, providing advance warning of potential drive-by spyware installation and other dangers. An available online breakdown shows what kind of testing underpins the danger assessments. We also like the extensive site profiles with user ratings, which allow you to check out a site before risking a visit. In some cases, SiteAdvisor errs on the side of caution, labeling sites as dangerous because of minor infractions, but these are few and far in between. This free extension is an obvious choice for IE users who want better Web security.Publisher's description

Version: SiteAdvisor for IE 1.2.0.8
"This program is very useful but can cause lag on slower Computers"
Pros: It helps rate sites (links) for you before clicking on them.
Cons: It is extremely slow when surfing. They need to work on this just a bit.

Version: SiteAdvisor for IE 1.2.0.8
Pros: I use their extensions in both Firefox and IE, and find it invaluable. Particularly if you're like me and do lots of web research, you never know what's going to happen when you visit an unfamiliar site. Their warnings have helped me to steer away from bad sites on multiple occasions, and particularly given the recent popularity of "drive-by-installs" that exploit IE vulnerabilities, I couldn't recommend their toolbars enough.
Cons: Occasional lag in getting their results. Per their website, "it checks our master database in order to display our safety ratings about the sites you visit. In order to perform these checks, our software must tell our servers what sites you visit; our database of safety ratings is far too large and too frequently changing for us to send it to you in advance when you download our software. But we collect the minimum information necessary to serve you, and your requests to us are anonymous."

Version: SiteAdvisor for IE 1.2.0.8
Pros: This is a very useful program for when you are browsing the net. Links that come up in your searches are marked safe or unsafe, according to Site Advisor's guidelines. Clicking on the Site Advisor icon next to the link gives you instant information on why the unsafe sites have been rated so; what downloads, links, and other kinds of "bad behavior" have been found by Site Advisor's web crawler. You can then make an informed decision on whether or not to browse there.
Cons: There are some sites Site Advisor has not yet ranked.

"Absolutely Essential For Security"
Pros: My son installed this on our computer a few months ago and it's saved us from infections and spam more than a few times. We never knew where spyware and spam came from and basically stopped downloading altogether. Well this nifty button changeds color depending on if the site is bad or not and it stopped me from downloading a screensaver overrun with spyware just the other day. It's free and so helpful.
Cons: I've seen a couple of sites that haven't been tested yet, but you can submit them pretty easily.

"Great addition to other security/spyware removal programs"
Pros: This is a solid little application that packs a punch. It's small in size but big on impact. Helps you avoid spam and spyware BEFORE they become a problem, as opposed to filters and removers which try to fix the problems after they occur. The site ratings next to Google results are a feature which by itself is worth this free download.
Cons: Coverage is still growing. Most if not all popular sites seem to be covered, but some smaller sites are not yet.
