This locked down browser is easily enabled, but suffers from page display problems. Simpliciti Locked Down Browser's bare bones display is perfect for operations that want very basic browsers. Documentation is slim for this program, and help is unavailable while using the browser. Nevertheless, those using the very simple browser will need no instructions. The few recognizable buttons include tool tips for the novice user.

Setting Simpliciti Locked Down Browser's basic options takes only a few moments and is easily performed by novice users. Some advanced features are not well-explained though. Users fill in text boxes for start up and error URLs. Radio buttons make it easy to decide which function icons are available through the browser. It's very easy to set the program to allow only a single domain, but there is no method to create a short list of blocked or allowed URLs. The browser blocks circumvention attempts using ALT-TAB or the Windows key. However, it is still possible to use CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the Task Manager to control it.

The browser is based on the Internet Explorer engine, but doesn't properly display some sites. Also, our testers didn't find a common reason for a problem that caused some sites not to completely load. The problem may not affect some users wishing to display a single site. The 14-day trial is long enough for site administrators, lab managers, and parents to fully test this browser.
