Version: SimpleOCR 3.1
Pros: It's free and works quite well with a good little teaching video available once opened. Raising the scan rate from the default 150dpi setting to 300 improves the accuracy of the text, any pictures end up as black boxes which can easily be removed when the finished document is opened in a word-processor.
Cons: Like all the other OCR software I've tried, it's far from perfect.

Version: SimpleOCR 3.1
Pros: Smooth download and nice interface.
Cons: It wouldn't recognize my new HP Laserjet 3050 scanner, though the scanner produced a nice clean jpg file of a two page text document.
SimpleOCR just isn't up to the job, any job, from what I experienced. I'm not a novice with hardware or software so I have to conclude the program is at fault. I stopped wasting time with it after 15 minutes and removed it from my computer.

Version: SimpleOCR 3.1
Pros: Considering the price - free - it's not a bad OCR program. It makes a lot of mistakes, but allows you to fix them as you review the text. Unfortunately, that makes text scanning a time-consuming operation. On the other hand, given the price of a high-quality OCR program (I've found Scan2Text to be excellent), it's better than nothing.

Version: SimpleOCR 3.1
Pros: There are free plug-ins available for several languages.
Cons: Single stray points in the picture were mistakenly recognised as apostrofes. Columns were not recognised. Ranges to convert to text are missing. Very clearly readable text was very badly recognised. So why distribute this product? Please stop!
