This search tool offers a few unique features but also suffers from several problems. Despite its name, this application installs in your system tray rather than as a browser add-on like traditional toolbars. All settings are accessible via a right click, though there is no main window or control panel. Like many competitors, the program lets you troll several popular search engines, get quick access to news, and browse shopping sites such as Amazon.com. You also can get the latest updates on computer viruses, though at the time of this review, the entries were months out of date. Interestingly, Shortcut Search Toolbar gives you timely travel updates related to homeland security, and you can have the system-tray icon change colors as the threat level increases or decreases. The pop-up blocker handles most simple ads but won't work with Windows XP, leaving many users out in the cold. Perhaps this program's most handy feature is all functions being accessible via a hot key, though learning them all by memory will take plenty of time. This free utility makes an informative tool for world-conscious users, but given its issues we can't give it our wholehearted support.
