Editors' Review

This application prevents unauthorized access to your computer by locating the fastest anonymous proxy server, but it runs at a snail's pace. Secret Surfer Pro is well-designed and easy to understand, but a significant amount of memory is required to run the application. The program hides and cleans your IP address, personal information, and Internet tracks, and offers ad filters for several browsers. Its anonymous-surfing feature allows you to choose a proxy server and to send anonymous e-mails. Unfortunately, in testing, an error requiring a system shutdown occurs each time an anonymous e-mail transmission is attempted. While Secret Surfer Pro hangs its hat on finding anonymous proxy servers, its performance is extremely slow, inevitably tying up your machine in the process. Until these issues are resolved, users won't find much use for Secret Surfer Pro.

"Update on Customer Support"

December 09, 2004

 |  Version: Secret Surfer Pro 3.67

The email that I sent to the Secret Surfer support desk bounced back to me. I don't think this company even exists any more. I deinstalled and was able to get a refund from Frye's after explaining the situation. They removed the software from their shelves after investigating my complaint. should consider removing this software from their offerings.

"Don' waste your time"

One of the first things about this program that made me question it's quality was the spelling mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes, but come on, this is a software developer. The next thing that turned me off was the fact that there is no "help" menu. Although the program was not difficult to figure out, I still had some questions. Next, every time I had an anonymous surfing session, the program had to reload, which took quite a long time and after, my speed was mutilated. The "position map" that is diplayed in the program is merely a pretty picture of the earth and does not give any clue as to where your IP address is located. The trace destructor took entirely too long, regardless of what type of encryption it uses. Last, but not least, the "customer service" for this software is non-existent. I wrote them an email and never got an answer and when I visited the website it was very difficult to find a "contact" link. This software needs a lot of work kids.

"God Awful!"

This is the email I sent to tech support, decide for yourself.

I just bought the software and have the following issues:

Every time I launch the program it has to authenticate the CD key. Does this mean I have to have the CD in every time I use the program?

Every time I run the cleanup program, I get a Windows error telling me to install the Microsoft Word CD key. I don't even run Microsoft Word! Then the Windows Installer comes up and I have to cancel through it. Where can I turn this check for MS Word OFF!?

Some of your error messages use atrocious English. Was this product developed in another country?

Worst of all, when I try to use the software in anonymous mode, my internet connection slows to an absolute crawl. It is impossible to use this way. Is this how your product typically performs?

In anonymous mode, web sites I hit think that I'm coming in from India. The browser loads the Indian version of Google! Is this how the software was designed to work?

Shouldn't there be some sort of "Setup" function. I clicked the firewall option thinking that I would be guided through a Wizard that would show me what options I could choose. Instead it launched the firewall immediately and started popping up windows asking for permission to connect for various programs. Where are the firewall settings? I already have Norton firewall installed and running and when your firewall tried to take over, my system hung. I couldn't even do a CTRL-ALT-DLT to end your program, I had to pull the plug out of the wall and re-boot. This makes me afraid to click any other function of your software as I don't know what program will be automatically launched and what it might do to my system.

Shouldn't there be some sort of documentation to this software? There is no manual in the box, and none that I can find on the CD or on your website. There is no "help" function that I can locate either.
