The program provides standard functionality for backing up and synchronizing your data. Like many similar applications, Second Copy is based on profiles that store information about what files to back up, where and when to do so, and so on.
The program can back up 25 versions of the same file, handy for those users who routinely make a lot of changes. All you have to do to create a new profile is modify a similar one. You can group numerous profiles and run backups automatically in the background. For more advanced users, the program offers FTP support, command-line options, and macros.
Its otherwise handy and clear interface would gain from integrating dialog and option windows in the common shell, but what it really lacks is a tree view for profiles. However, Second Copy's functionality and price are adequate for both small-business and home users, especially those comfortable with technology.
Publisher's description
From Centered Systems :Second Copy automatically copies files and folders from one location to another on the local drives, across the network, or to removable drives such as USB, CD-RW/DVD, or on network storage devices. It works in the background. Simply tell Second Copy, which files to copy, where and when to copy them, and forget about it. Its easy-to-use setup wizard helps to define 'profiles' that describe the source and the destination location, and the frequency at which to copy the files. It monitors the source files and automatically copies the new or changed files to the destination. It can compress and encrypt the files using the built-in compression utility. Automatic scheduling includes specific days of the week, hours of the day, or any desired time intervals. New features include 256-bit AES encryption, FTP support, e-mail notification, and support to run as a service, PKZip compatible compression, two-way file synchronization, and the ability to archive up to 25 old versions of files.
Version 7.1.0.3 fixes bugs: progress bar panel shows properly when Toolbar is Hidden/Shown; "Where" page now correctly shows source folder when clicked on the "Where?" tab.

Version: Second Copy 7.1.0.3
"I use Second Copy for instantaneous backup of development files - Great!"
Pros: In my software development work, I needed a tool to create backup copies of files automatically whenever they change. Also, to maintain a number of generations of backups. I needed the backups to be placed on a separate drive, and to work whether or not the files were in use by another program. Second Copy meets these needs very well, running transparently in the background, it just carries out its functions without my having to think about it or interact in any way. The backup files are just always there, always current. Very fast, very light. Highly configurable for a wide variety of uses. Great value.

Version: Second Copy 7.1.0.3
"There's nothing more to backups than a Second Copy."
Pros: The best thing for me is that all the functions are very well explained so I didn't have to worry about making a mistake and realizing I didn't backup anything at all. Also, the interface is clean and the program can run silently in the background without much strain on the processor or even the harddisks.
Cons: It would be nice to see a function where you can exclude a single folder instead of adding all the other folders.

Version: Second Copy 7.1.0.3
"Tried 'em all, Second Copy is best"
Pros: Easy to set up and use once you "get it". Another one I tried I never could quite figure out what they wanted in setup screens, others too complicated. Second Copy has plenty of options to customize your copy or sync and they're easy to figure out. I sync all my document files between two computers and it does a fine job.
Cons: Like another reviewer, I would like it to sync open files, but that may be asking too much since an open file can change from one second to the next. It asks you if you want it to try to copy open files but this never works so they should remove this option. This is the only reason I gave it four stars rather than five.

Version: Second Copy 7.1.0.3
Pros: I can setup profiles easily for different folders and they can do just about anything I want and have them auto-save to just about anywhere on my HDDs. I pretty much love it.
Cons: I don't like that I had to pay $30 but I'm a cheap skate and I like it so I bought it!
