Publisher's Description
From Centered Systems:
Second Copy automatically copies files and folders from one location to another on the local drives, across the network, or to removable drives such as USB, CD-RW/DVD, or on network storage devices. It works in the background. Simply tell Second Copy, which files to copy, where and when to copy them, and forget about it. Its easy-to-use setup wizard helps to define "profiles" that describe the source and the destination location, and the frequency at which to copy the files. It monitors the source files and automatically copies the new or changed files to the destination. It can compress and encrypt the files using the built-in compression utility. Automatic scheduling includes specific days of the week, hours of the day, or any desired time intervals. New features include 256-bit AES encryption, FTP support, e-mail notification, and support to run as a service, PKZip compatible compression, two-way file synchronization, and the ability to archive up to 25 old versions of files.
Version 7.0.0.163 added: hidden option EmailFrom for SMTP emails; hidden option LogFileType=html. Fixed: when saving the log an extra "." was added to the file extension; sort order indicator arrow on profiles list was reversed (up vs down); dial-up connection to VPN didn't wait long enough after connecting.

"Good but is not perfect yet"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
Back up files and keep old versions.
Easy to select which files to be backed-up and which files to be ignored.Cons
Can not support multi-byte filenames and this is the main reason that prevents me from actually using it.
Summary
Good choice if you never want to backup files with multi-byte filenames. Otherwise, it is useless.

"You get an exact copy of your working folder automatically at all time"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
You only have 1 backup copy which is an exact copy updated automatically all the time. The other products produce copies and copies of backup that take up media space. Some other products create backups in special formats which are hard to monitor and restore. For Second Copy, you can simply replace the defective drive and copy the backup copy (which by the way is an exact copy as current as to the time the defective drive died) to the new drive without any backup software.
Cons
Sychronization mode can be tricky and can cause loss of data.

"Easy and well-supported"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
I was quickly able to setup my backup profiles and customize them as needed. Virtually no learning curve. Best of all, when I experienced a problem with my registry that was causing Second Copy to fail, the support team quickly debugged it for me and provided the solution.

"Just what I have been looking for"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
After using various backup programs that use some funky proprietary format it is good to find a program that simply copies what you want copied in the original format...Good control on getting what you want copied, when you want it copied.
Cons
Only a couple of petty things that I did not like, neither worth mentioning.

"Great backup tool"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
Easy to setup. Makes exact copies and keeps archives. No need to "restore" b/c the files are not put in some proprietary format.
Cons
Nothing

"No surprises (which is Good news when backing up)"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
By securing networks for 25 years, and writing our own xcopy and vb scripts for years, I can only take my hat off to Second Copy.
Its robust (‘networkwise’), it copies Just Fine between file systems (and creates a log for every single file. Great!!) I can go on and on.
The only 'Pro' that adequately, Really, can describe it, is that it Works!!
It does what it says on the tin, no more no less: No surprises.
Cons
None really. its slower than xcopy, but xcopy will slow down too if files are being verified.. .. So - none really.

"Best backup software I have tried yet"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
Easy to use interface, has all the necessary options to suit most users, works over networks, fairly good notification options.
One other Cnet user said that this program doesn't backup files that are in use. I have found that version 7 DOES backup most files that are in use. There are some files that Windows seems to lock, and I have not had success with ANY backup software working with those. But Second Copy does this as well as any other backup software I have tried.
I have tried about 5-6 other backup programs and I like this one the best. I used FilebackPC for a few years, and it's not a bad program, but it was having trouble backing up to my network drive store on the internet. Second Copy has no problem with this. Second Copy is also much easier to use.
The other complaint I read here about Second Copy was that it stores it's profiles in the registry and can't be backed up. Version 7 does not do this. It stores the backup profiles in a ".dat" file in 'Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Centered Systems\Second Copy'. That file can be backed up and used to retore profiles. The Second Copy website has information on how to do this.
This is my new favorite backup program.
Cons
One minor complaint is that when I put a DVD+RW in my drive it popped up and asked me if I wanted to backup to that disk. I checked "no" and "don't ask again" and it has not bothered me about this again. I don't like the fact that it was monitoring my drives. For those who like to backup any files as they change, this feature is available.

"Quite simply the best backup utility I have used (and I have purchased many!)"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
I own many different backup applications (including ones that cost $70+) and Second Copy is the only one that I would highly recommend. Set-up is very easy and intuitive. Best of all with Second Copy you never have to worry about doing backups ever again...they happen automatically without fail! (like the infomercial man says, "you just set it and forget it!") :) Having had two major system crashes before, I sleep very well knowing I have a duplicate copy of all of my files on my external drive. The FTP feature in Second Copy 7 is wonderful and gives me extra piece of mind if something really unfortunate happened (flood, fire, etc.) E-mail support was superb.
Buy this software. You will not be disappointed!
Cons
No cons!

"Finally an effortless and accurate backup program"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
Easy to use, does backups in the background (after initial backup, it only backs up your new file so it doesn't slow down the system for ever backing everything up). Set it up, tell it what kind of backups and when and then forget about it!
Cons
Can't think of any....

"Flexible and easy to setup and use - clear, reliable and fast Restore process"
Version: Second Copy 7.16
Pros
I've been testing 3 different backup programs to use with my NAS drive, and when I had to restore my system, SC stunned me with the clarity, speed and reliabiity of the Restore process. It far outshone the others. Also, their Tech Support provides timely responses that are detailed amd precisely on target.
