The program provides standard functionality for backing up and synchronizing your data. Like many similar applications, Second Copy is based on profiles that store information about what files to back up, where and when to do so, and so on.
The program can back up 25 versions of the same file, handy for those users who routinely make a lot of changes. All you have to do to create a new profile is modify a similar one. You can group numerous profiles and run backups automatically in the background. For more advanced users, the program offers FTP support, command-line options, and macros.
Its otherwise handy and clear interface would gain from integrating dialog and option windows in the common shell, but what it really lacks is a tree view for profiles. However, Second Copy's functionality and price are adequate for both small-business and home users, especially those comfortable with technology.
Publisher's description
From Centered Systems :Second Copy automatically copies files and folders from one location to another on the local drives, across the network, or to removable drives such as USB, CD-RW/DVD, or on network storage devices. It works in the background. Simply tell Second Copy which files to copy, where and when to copy them, and forget about it. Its easy-to-use setup wizard helps to define "profiles" that describe the source and the destination location, and the frequency at which to copy the files. It monitors the source files and automatically copies the new or changed files to the destination. It can compress and encrypt the files using the built-in compression utility. Automatic scheduling includes specific days of the week, hours of the day, or any desired time intervals. The application's features include 256-bit AES encryption, FTP support, e-mail notification, and support to run as a service, PKZip compatible compression, two-way file synchronization, and the ability to archive up to 25 old versions of files.
Version 7.0.0.152 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
What's new in this version:
- Fixed: Files were recopied during ExactCompress when source is \\UNC name.
- Fixed: Displaying Quick start guide on multi-monitor systems.

Version: Second Copy 7.0.0.152
"Wow, superb file based backup"
Pros: Sophisticated features in a very easy to understand interface/workflow.
Fast, low overhead and flawless execution.
Very inexpensive for what you get.
Simply THE BEST file synchronization based backup product available.
Cons: Needs open file support.
Add as service requires manual process and instructions are semi-confusing. This is a minor issue and doesn't impact the operation of the program.

Version: Second Copy 7.0.0.152
"A product everyone should have on their computer."
Pros: Combined with a second hard drive, this makes sure the files you feel are important are protected. Most backup solutions are too expensive or have to be done manually - this one is reasonably priced and automatic!

Version: Second Copy 7.0.0.152
"Great Solution, more functionality wanted"
Pros: Ease of use, effective & dependable functionality, file sync, copy, & archiving, ability to set priority level of backup process.
Cons: Similar products offer same functionality, including a tool provided by Microsof.
Would like to see directory tree structure with ability to select multiple directories. Backup support for popular programs would also be nice.

Version: Second Copy 7.0.0.152
"The Best Backup Utility for the Money"
Pros: I use Second Copy everyday for backup of my most critical data. Just like clockwork the software runs without fail. The interface is very user friendly for even the most novice user. The support team was very helpful in addressing a concern I had and resolved it quickly. I have recommended this program to many people and all have had great comments.
Cons: There should be a break for current users to upgrade to the new 7.0 version, but for how low the price is you really can't complain.

"love it, I will buy this one."
Pros: No-nonsense background operation, you would not know it's there. On-the-fly backups are created as files change, if you want them to be. The documentation suggested not using the "as files change" option for large folders but my "My Documents" is about 20GB and it handles it just fine. It doesn't bog the system down because it seems to have a low priority - it runs when the system is idle. Disabling a backup profile is a quick right-click option (eg. if you expect to make lots of changes to large files). I also liked the synchronisation tool eg. for synchronising folders on a laptop.
Cons: None.
