This search and rescue (SAR) application (APP) has been designed by SAR APP Pty Ltd to assist those people who find themselves in a distress situation. This APP provides the ability for a person to post their distress information, personal details and position (Google Maps + Latitude & Longitude) with a view to notify an International SAR Authority and/or friends that they are in distress and require urgent assistance. You don't have to use this APP to notify a SAR Authority, you might use it to notify a family member of a specific situation where you need help. The choice remains yours. In 1944, 52 countries became signatories to the Chicago Convention which amongst other things, assigned responsibility to assist those persons in distress across all environments, more specifically with an aviation focus. Today, most countries respond in the first instance to distress situations professionally and with the intention of safety of life. Like an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), Emergency Locator Transmittor (ELT), Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), or 406 MHz beacon, this SAR APP notify's those international distress agencies of your position and nature of distress. Although not harnessing the availability of roaming satelitte technology at this stage, SAR APP will forward your pre-set emergency profile to any International Search and Rescue (SAR) Authority, Friend, Contact or even post the distress alert to your facebook page. All you need is one reason why this could be a 'life-saver' for you or your family and therefore is the best APP you've got at your disposal. From our perspective, we hope that you'll never need to use it.The developer, Andrew McWhirter is a Commercial Pilot and has over 20 years experience as a SAR Coordinator, Pilot and Emergency Manager in Australia at State and Federal levels. He has coordinated search and rescue incidents across some of the world's most inhospitable terrains and environments. Numerous Southern Ocean yacht race rescues, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race disaster in 1998 and even Steve Fossett's solo balloon World Circumnavigation crash near Noumea. But these are just a few of the 1000s of incidents where Andrew has developed an interest and desire to provide detailed and cost effective safety systems to the ordinary person. With the benefit of technology, its now here with SAR APP.Andrew has led teams at the highest coordination level as a SAR Mission Coordinator with the Queensland Police Service, and as Senior SAR Coordinator with Australian Search and Rescue (AusSAR), world renowned International SAR Agency and division of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), covering an area of responsibility that covers 52 million square kilometers or 1/9th of the earth's surface. Andrew has led and been involved in over 5000 SAR actions, that range from EPIRB activations to full SAR responses involving the tasking of SAR aircraft, defense force assets, civilian personnel and volunteers. He has trained thousands of volunteer and professional crews in aviation drop supply operations and delivered SAR seminars across Australia and been reported in National media and on television. This SAR APP has been developed so that you have choice of how you can notify your family or friends or perhaps alert an International SAR Authority when you're next in Distress or need help.
