Editors' review

You can surf the Internet without leaving traces using this handy program, but it lacks a secured trace-cleaning feature.

Sandboxie places itself in the tray bar where you can easily access its functions. From its tray icon, you can easily launch your default browser or any number of user-added programs. Running Sandboxie doesn't change or affect the way you surf the Internet. However, you'll quickly notice that typed URLs from previous Web-surfing sessions aren't available. That's because the program creates an isolated sandbox folder where it stores all cookies, temporary files, and index.dat files. If you have the need, you can view the contents of the sandbox folder via its tray icon.

You can quickly erase the recorded Internet activity from Sandboxie, although it doesn't have a file-shredding utility to securely delete the information. Unlike many competing products, Sandboxie supports popular browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera. In all, Sandbox is a good tool for all users who do not want their Internet activity recorded.

    "Good Sandbox"

    September 22, 2012   |   By JB_Lapree

    Version: Sandboxie 3.74

    Pros

extra protection to prevent unwanted changes

    Cons

    The deletion process.
I did a recovery scan of my drive after clearing the sandbox and found many of the files recoverable. Not a flaw, but a little bit concerning.

    Summary

I would like to have a more secure deletion of my Sandbox. I run my CCleaner (Wipe Free Space) to clear up any garbage left behind. Takes about an hour to clean my PC this way.
