Publisher's Description
From SOS Online Backup:
The SOS Online Backup system easily allows you to backup files, folders, or entire computers to our network of backup servers and then access and share those files anywhere in the world using just a Web browser. Ten times the features of a USB key but half the price. Whether its Hurricane Katrina, or a power surge, or you just delete some files accidentally--SOS will save you. SOS comes online each night, detects which files have changed - and then actually goes inside those files to just capture the ones and zeros that are different from the last time a backup ran. SOS then securely transfers that to our servers--retaining every version of every file you've backed up. So if you want to see how your computer looked last July--no problem. Never lose another important document or file again. Also--because your files are backed up to SOS's global network of backup servers--it means that you can access your files wherever you are in the world. You can share your files with friends too.

"Great for the home and small business user"
Version: SOS Online Backup 1.2.67
Pros
It was simple to use. The person that must have thought of this is a genius ;) Seriously, liked the process of installing
-
"Cheap, easy to use, simple user interface, effective"
Version: SOS Online Backup 1.2.67
Pros
-Simple setup process
-You can nominate exactly what files you want backed up, how often and when
-SOS looks for changes and files and only updates the backup with the parts that have changed, saving you time and bandwith.
-it's cheap, but by no means nasty and it hasn't made my computer crash or hang at all (touch wood!)
Cons
- well it might be better if it was free, but that's wishful thinking
- it can make you complacent with your backups becuse you get used to the software doing it for you. Set a reminder in outlook to make sure you add new files to the list of files to be backed up.
-works better with often changed large files than lots and lots of seldom changed smaller ones...it takes longer for the software to check through your list of files to be backed up.

"really simple to use - did what it promised"
Version: SOS Online Backup 1.2.67
Pros
I thought it was great. Really easy to use with the 1-2-3 setup. Backup up my files very quickly - great compression - I backed up a 300 MB Quickbooks database and it shrunk it to just 25 MB (or said it did). Really like how it just transferrs the changes in a file and not the entire file.
Cons
took a little bit of getting used to - and have to leave teh computer on at night for it to run. I think i'll just trigger a "backup now" as i leave the office each night.

"Great idea - loved the online access"
Version: SOS Online Backup 1.2.67
Pros
Loved it. Just had to right click my folders to protect them and then it backed them up. i really loved the online access - that was really really useful. Pretty simple interface - although some of it could be cleaned up a bit.
Excellent for backing up my office documents at work. Flew through them - but i am on Comcast cable.
Cons
Help file was out of date - and it took a long time to backup a video file - but the plus is that it ignored it after the first run.

"Very easy to use - does just what it says - great!"
Version: SOS Online Backup 1.2.67
Pros
Really simple to use - I just had to drag my documents folder onto the program and that was it. Backed up each night - was pretty quick. I was told by the SOS staff that they've got data centers in the US and in Asia. The speed of upload was really good (150 KBps) - so I'm assuming my data was backed up to the US.
The online sharing interface is really useful - particularly for remote access.
Cons
I didn't like the way it reported success or failure for different files during a backup - I found it pretty confusing - but at least all the information needed is there. Better than some other products i've seen.

"Insecure and unstable"
Version: SOS Online Backup 1.2.67
Pros
Good idea, nice interface, but there are MUCH better programs out there which don't reveal your private data to the rest of the world.
Cons
This program has serious problems with security which don't exist in others that don't use a web-based restore. Further, data is stored in Australia, making backups for US customers. Load up their web site to test the speed - sosbackup.com.au
