Transform your boring desktop into an RSS feed and photo slide show with this nifty media management tool. Roxio MediaTicker presents a ticker-style bar that can be placed at various positions on your desktop. Vivid thumbnail images and feed links scroll or fade-in (depending on your preference) continuously across the bar.
The great thing about this toolbar is that it can be resized three different ways to suit your tastes, though we found that the smallest thumbnail size impedes your view of the RSS feed links. Even more impressive is that your browser resizes itself so that it doesn't hide the picture bar. Double-clicking an image instantly pulls the image from the bar, where you have the option of printing, e-mailing, or setting it as a desktop background. Likewise, clicking a feed link took us directly to the corresponding Web site for the full article. We were able to easily figure out how to add our own pictures and feeds, but if you're still unsure, there's a helpful how-to link that offers instructions.
There's not really anything bad we can say about this freebie. Users of all levels will certainly find this a great tool for keeping current with the latest news and pics.
Publisher's description
From Sonic Solutions :MediaTicker is a fun, scrolling ticker that delivers your local digital photos and remote RSS feeds directly onto your desktop. Unlike other newsreaders, MediaTicker gives you a visual perspective on your RSS feeds by displaying content in both text and thumbnail image format. Now you can add the latest news, sports, headlines, cartoons and photos from almost any site to your MediaTicker. Web sites like Flickr, Yahoo News Photos, and MSNBC provide RSS feeds of images and thumbnail images with links. Add your own photos to flickr.com then tell your family and friends to get MediaTicker to stay up to date with all your latest photos automatically.
Version 2.1 enables users to search for Digital Media on the Web directly from the ticker toolbar and adds compatibility with Windows Vista.

Version: Roxio MediaTicker 2.1
Pros: Easy to install and go, but it just wasn't something I needed to have, so I uninstalled it.

Version: Roxio MediaTicker 2.1
"Lovely addition to my system"
Pros: Nice combination of RSS feeds and pictures from the local drive
Cons: Wish list: Can deselect individual folders. I have folders within my main pictures folder that I do not want to see. Rather than add a whole bunch of folders, I would like to be able to select the main folder, than remove the unwanted folders.
