Although it's now free of adware, this audio application strikes us as a rather poor choice, particularly in light of its competition. Rosoft CD Extractor Bronze Edition bundles Rosoft Audio Converter and Rosoft CD Extractor, although the programs aren't accessible through the same interface.

Audio Converter offers controls convenient for tranforming numerous audio tracks between MP3 and WAV files, though grammatical errors litter the interface. Both apps boast a primitive, unpolished design that will turn most users off. The Options menu lets you set the quality of output files and specify the conversion speed. Unfortunately, the CD-ripping utility was a huge disappointment.

In multiple tests, the app never successfully extracted a single song, and neither its built-in player nor its utility for downloading track information from the Web were functional. We'd suggest most users stay away from this one.

Rosoft CD Extractor converts your audio CDs to WAV or MP3 files. You can select from a wide range of audio formats, record part of a track, and download information from FreeDB, the main database for audio CD information on the Net. As a bonus this download also comes with Rosoft Audio Recorder and Rosoft Audio Converter. The recorder adds a mixer control so you can select input source such as line-in, rec-in. You can set the input volume as well as the output volume on your sound card. The mixer operates directly on your sound card's driver.
