CNET Editors' review
Ripcast lets you record streaming MP3 music from radio stations listed on Shoutcast.com. It makes recording easier in many ways: It can automatically split the stream into audio tracks and assign ID3 tags, and the timer can schedule the program to record anytime, although only from one radio station. The dull interface is far from straightforward, though, and has many small faults. For example, you can't see recorded songs as a list, and it takes too much fuss to schedule a rip. Worse, there is no help file for this version. Though it doesn't quite live up to its promise, radio fans may appreciate RipCast.Publisher's Description
From Xoteck Software:
RipCast allows you to download music from streaming-audio stations, saving each song as a separately titled MP3. A station browser gives you the ability to browse thousands of streams and music genres, all available for download. Streams can be easily downloaded with a single click in your Web browser. RipCast has an easy-to-use interface and integrates with your existing media player and Web browser. The Auto-enqueue feature can add songs to your Winamp playlist as they download for continuous listening. RipCast automatically builds your music library as songs download. Songs are sorted and added to a music library, which you can manage from within RipCast. An autorecord timer lets you schedule recordings to start while you're away from your computer. HTTP authentication allows you to download from premium service providers. Features include simultaneous downloading, smart track-splitting, automatic ID3-tagging, a Favorites manager, an HTTP proxy, and bandwidth monitoring.

"does ripcast work with vista"
Version: RipCast 1.9
Pros
its good if it works with vista
Cons
no help from ripcast web site
-
"Such a change to have uninterrupted music!"
Version: RipCast 1.9
Pros
I use ripcast mainly for listening to classical stuff. The main advantage over trad radio is that you get to hear the whole piece, not just snippets
Cons
The only drawback is deciding which station to listen to (though the bowser is very helpful)

"Version 1.9 is total crap, does not work."
Version: RipCast 1.9
Cons
Instructions indicate user should click "tune in" button, followed by "open" option. I tried two pages of stations (more than 40) and "open" was never presented as an option. This software does not work. Do not expect any support.

"No customer service; charged me for useless serial #."
Version: RipCast 1.9
Pros
Enjoyed the product for a few years, in '03 & '04, upgraded & paid for it (when the free version w/no download limits was around). It is integrated with a good streaming radio site...
Cons
After a pc crash, I tried it again months later; no more free version available (the trial limits you to downloading around 35MB at a time) so I bought it online, again; but a useless serial number was given to me. No customer service or response to my e-mails. A friend had the same problem as well. A waste of $18.00. Find some other software that records off your sound card when you tune in to a radio stream. Even if it costs more. RipCast turned into a disappointing RipOff.

"Best Internet Download Tool on this earth"
Version: RipCast 1.9
Pros
Use it for downloading MP3 format of my favorite Radio shows. Then upload it on my pda to listen !!!
Cons
Each time you close the program you must reload the station you are downloading. It seems that the IP address changes and this is why you must constantly put in the last IP address
