In spite of a few negatives, this utility provides most necessary tools for keeping your PC's registry clean. The majority of folks are unlikely to find Registry First Aid's main window perplexing, as it offers only two options--one for finding unwanted entries and one for locating errors. You'll have to specify a search string when using the former tool, but the latter lets you choose which kind of entries to search for, including invalid paths, DLLs, fonts, and Start menu items. When it comes to scan speeds, the program is rather poky, and we wish it provided more information as to whether an entry was safe to remove. Still, since the application automatically backs up your registry before removal and excludes certain system-critical keys from scans, we think most users will be safe enough trusting its results. The trial version removes only 14 items at a time, so if you really want to get your registry spick-and-span, you'll have to run the utility over and over or kick down the cash to buy it. Though it might not be the ideal solution for beginners, more savvy users will benefit from Registry First Aid.Publisher's description
From Rose City Software :Tired of Windows crashing? Sick of having software lock up on you or taking forever to load? The problem could be all of those incorrect registry entries caused by software installations and un-installations that went awry! Un-installations can leave behind file references in the registry to files that don't exist. You can end up with hundreds of files to slow down your computer and cause software to lock up, requiring a reboot of your computer.

"One of the few which you use with confidence."
Pros: This is one of the few Registry Cleaning/Repair programs which you, as a user, can use with confidence, given the fact that I often Registry Cleaning/Repair programs a risk.
Cons: Deep Scan of registry is not carefully separated from the other types of scan in the user interface of this software.
Normal users will benefit very little from Deep Scan, so I advice all users to refrain from running such scans in a normal basis. To do so, Uncheck the "Invalid Paths" box from list of Scan Types.

Version: Registry First Aid 6 build 1376
Pros: I have used a lot of registry cleaners over the years and most aren't worth the money. I think Registry First Aid does a good job and gives you the opportunity to choose what you want to delete, which is the way to go. I like the software, it seems to work.

"I feel the need to remain neutral here."
Pros: But, I hate registry cleaners. I have learned thru the "School of Hard Knocks" that they can cause as much, or more damage then they do good. I will never invest in a "registry cleaning application only" software again. This application, like all of this type can be useful and dangerous at the same time. If you feel a need to invest in such an application, this is another decent choice. But use it with common sense and caution.

Version: Registry First Aid 6 build 1376
Pros: RFA editor is an easy to use registry editor which finds many different types of errors such as invalid dll's, file extensions and startup programs. It has a backup feature which ensures that if anything goes wrong you can undo your changes.
Cons: It tends to come up with an awful lot of entries which cannot be modified due to restrictions from Vista. This means that if you have made a lot of changes to your PC you can end up with over 1000 registry errors and have to scan tw0 or three times.
Summary: RFA is a safe and easy to use program. Despite what some people may say about editing the registry it can be vital in certain situations. For example when I uninstalled Nero 9 it left behind over 580 registry entires even though I had used their so ... read more >>
