Like countless similar programs, Registry Defender finds and deletes useless Registry keys and backs up the Registry in case something goes wrong. It has a straightforward, good-looking interface, which allows beginners to run the program on autopilot while advanced users target specific areas of the Registry. Registry Defender performed well in our tests. Our only major complaint is that you can't group Registry problems by type--a useful feature when you have a lot to review. We weren't big fans of the demo limit, either, which restricts users to fixing 20 keys per session. That's a serious drawback given the number of good, free Registry cleaners available. If you don't mind spending a little, Registry Defender isn't a bad choice, but it's pricey at $29.95, and we'd recommend checking out the freeware alternatives before pulling out your wallet.
