This clear-cut utility lets you restore lost files without bothering with disk-system details. Using Recover My Files' convenient interface, you will have no difficulty sorting files and choosing multiple items to recover. The program supports most common graphic, document, archive, e-mail, database, and financial file types, as well as others, such as MP3s. The Preview window displays text, images, and MS Office files, as well as archive contents. Recover My Files searches for just-deleted files or files stripped of their Windows-file reference information. You can focus your search on particular file types and cut search time with special options, such as starting with a specific sector, skipping to the ends of found files, or searching disk sectors instead of clusters. Unfortunately, the program doesn't estimate time remaining in an ongoing job. It does, however, offer built-in CD- and DVD-burning support, and you can run it from a floppy disk or a CD without touching the hard drive. Though it's difficult to fully assess Recover My Files' capabilities, as the demo disables saving, it seems like a solid choice for nonprofessionals.Publisher's description

Version: Recover My Files 3.98 build 5196
Pros: My WD 200gb hard drive became unrecognized on my Win XP box and said "do you want to format this drive". Recover My Files found the entire partition with full file and folder names. The program was easy to use. I ran the Fast Format Recover option which took about 1 hour and I it found everyting. The preview ability so that you can see your files in the results window lets you know that it actually found the files (not like others that I tried that just showed a file name).
Cons: Must save data to another drive - but I think this is pretty standard for data recovery software.

Version: Recover My Files 3.98 build 5196
Pros: The recovery utility was able to find a partition that was lost due to formatting. The table structure listing the files and folders was found without a hitch as well. It was even able to find an old FAT32 partition that existed several drive formats ago, long before the switch to NTFS. Best of all, it was reasonably quick. It scanned a 15GB partition in less than 10 minutes showing the results in an well-structured list. Keep in mind that the trial version let's you scan for files and see the results. It does not let you recover anything until it is purchased, but again, it's a small price to pay.

"RecoverMyFiles 3.98 fails miserably in recovering FAT32 files"
Pros: Although trial version appears to recover files, the end result with paid full version was near 100% failure, meaning absolute NO pros for this product.
Cons: Problem: corrupted Western Digital external USB 60GB hard drive RAW directory not recognized and files not accessible. Before purchasing a recovery package I tested several trial products purporting a high success rate in recovering FAT files that included Stellar Phoenix FAT&NTFS (no preview), Data Doctor Recovery FAT, and PC Inspector File Recovery
The trial version was fast and appeared to recover files in the preview feature. However, the big downside was instead of the disk's original tree directory the program produced a long list of renamed files like Recovered_File000146.jpg, bearing no resemblance to the original file names. This may be ok for small amount of data but makes it very difficult if you have thousands of files. I was reluctantly willing to live with this if original photographs were recoverable. With full version, I had to rescan the 60GB hard drive containing just over 55GB of data and it took over twelve hours with almost a complete failure in recovering the data (jpeg, PDF, txt, html, doc, etc.). Thousands of files were listed as recovered but without original file name, I had to go through long list and click on individual files to preview. Files that had appeared intact in trial version were either missing or corrupted. I rescanned, changing scan/recover options by narrowing it to only jpeg files with same results.
Luckily I stumbled across another recovery program (GetDataBack by Runtime Software) that recovered the entire disk (full tree directory and all files) in less than 3 hours, providing further evidence RecoverMyFiles 3.98 fails miserably in recovering FAT32 files.
Although GetData's web site indicates a 30-day refund guarantee, this only applies if you purchase their software and download versions from their web site.

"Grate program, recovered all my files from formated hard drive."

"Excellent!! Recovered all my holiday photos."
Pros: After a great holiday and 1000's of photos taken I (stupidly) formatted our 2GB compact flash card in the camera. The wife was not impressed. But after finding Recover My Files I ran it and they all they all reappeared. It was easy to use, and fast. I could see the photos before outlaying the $70 for the program. To be honest I would have paid twice that to get my photos back.
So after I got the photos back I tested this software on my hard disk to see if it did as good a job as it did on the camera card. Holy cow, it's worth just downloading this just to see what crap is left on your drive. Heaps of stuff came back, not just photos, word files, excel, loads of internet pages. I could see what web sites everyone has been visiting. Very powerful. Highly recommended.
Cons: None that I can think of. It did exactly what I needed - got my photos back.
