This clear-cut utility lets you restore lost files without bothering with disk-system details. Using Recover My Files' convenient interface, you will have no difficulty sorting files and choosing multiple items to recover. The program supports most common graphic, document, archive, e-mail, database, and financial file types, as well as others, such as MP3s. The Preview window displays text, images, and MS Office files, as well as archive contents. Recover My Files searches for just-deleted files or files stripped of their Windows-file reference information. You can focus your search on particular file types and cut search time with special options, such as starting with a specific sector, skipping to the ends of found files, or searching disk sectors instead of clusters. Unfortunately, the program doesn't estimate time remaining in an ongoing job. It does, however, offer built-in CD- and DVD-burning support, and you can run it from a floppy disk or a CD without touching the hard drive. Though it's difficult to fully assess Recover My Files' capabilities, as the demo disables saving, it seems like a solid choice for nonprofessionals.

    Version: Recover My Files 3.98

    "Deceivingly useless trial/Undetermined full-product functionality"

by dancaselden on August 10, 2006

Pros: Judging by the trial account, this product was easy of operate as the interface is mostly user friendly and so far bug free.

    Cons: MOST IMPORTANTLY:

The trial account will not allow you to recover any data. It will in fact allow you to search for the data, in my case for over 3 days, until it finishes, where it will refuse to recover the files it found unless you purchase the product on the spot. If you choose to purchase the product later you will have to do the search all over again.

    SECONDLY:

This software costs $69. Personally, I can pay some children down the street to take a list of what songs I had and start stabbing my hdd with tiny magnets for $70. Or buy a backup hard drive. Or an operating system that doesn't write over its mft.

    NOTE TO THE DEVS:

The user must choose some example file types to lead the recovery search. It preemptively states that selecting 'too many' file types will slow the process down, but that selecting just a few of the most common will speed the process. This portion of the interface was more difficult to work with, as I found myself scrolling down a seemingly endless list of files types trying to battle in my head "Do I have that? Yes... but how many? more than .mp3s? but what about .zips, I haven't even neared the end of this list, so maybe I'll come back to this one... but how many should I select? Will one too many be a big difference?" A thought process that is not necessary, and embarassingly lengthy. For a start, the user should not be allowed to select too many file types to ascertain that the recovery process runs as quickly as possible. But I beg the software developers to smooth this process, even if it means forcing defaults so that I have to sit another x hours of the 3 days that I've waited, just so I don't think to myself the entire time it's running: "I shouldn't have checked pdf...."

    Version: Recover My Files 3.98

"Useless DAta Recovery - After buy they accuse of pirated copy"

by bpoltera on October 19, 2006

Cons: Not much to like - downloaded trial version - decided to buy - key did not unlock trial version - had to reload from their web page - support is super slow (takes days) and they accused my of using a pirated version, even I had given them purchase info, unwilling to support. Files can't be recovered well, file size limits - can't safe/store search - took over 24 hours to scan disk with useless results - consider yourself warned about this software.

    Version: Recover My Files 3.98

"Unless Your Willing To Pay $70 .....do not waste your time with this product"

    by dphillips5 on November 4, 2006

Pros: Seems to scan and find deleted files on hard drive okay.

Cons: This software is crippled and you CAN NOT SAVE any file it finds, Unless your willing to pay $70, to "maybe" be able to recover some files if they havent been written over.

Not worth installing and wasting time doing a scan and then finding out when scans done that you just wasted your time.

Theres Free File recovery programs out there that scans just as good and FREE ! So do a little search and find one of those instead of this product.

    Version: Recover My Files 3.98

    "Excellent data recovery software"

by Reggy on November 28, 2006

Pros: This program caters both for the beginner and the advanced user trying to get their files back.

It has four different methods of search designed to recover formatted or corrupt drives or to look specifically for files.

I like the fact that you can either seach the drive letter, or if you drive letter has gone it gives you the options to search the physical drive.

In my case it recovered an accidentially formatted drive extreemly well. The full file and folder structure was recovered.

I also like the fact that it is possible to search for a specific file type. In addition to getting the full file and folder information back, the program can use just the header and footer of a file to find it - this method does not get the file name but if you are really desparate for your data this program will get files back that other recover software wont.

The best feature of the program is the preview window which lets you see the documents, photos etc that can be recovered. At $69.95 it not the cheapest, but if you can see your files thats the best guarantee you can get that the program will recover files.

Cons: The program slows down when you run it on a drive with bad sectors.
