    "REALTEK HD AUDIO WIN7 X64 v2.75"

    May 28, 2014   |   By johnniedoo

Version: Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8 64-bit) R2.75

    Pros

I go directly to the Realtek site when I see these updates. I have Gigabyte boards which employ the Realtek set up and are still back on 2.71r or 2.73r. I try to keep the drivers, at least , updated. One board is 890fxa ud5 and the other is 990fxa ud3, both have the same alc889 but the 990 has a far more extensive dobly pc ht interface. i download the exact same thing from realtek but the 2 boards have 2 separate and different dolby set ups and functions. peecee4 drivers get installed in the 990 but not the 890.
I have not had any real issues with any of the drivers or updates going back to 2.60 in these boards. So,the updates are just for routine updating. i can always roll back easy enough. they installs are 2 part and totally automatic.
only troubles i had is then the installer uninstalled in part 1, and blue screened or failed to successfully reboot after the uninstall part. not with this latest (2.75 version) on either machine. so far , so good. but no changes, good or bad.

    Cons

Not any in version 2.75 from realtek link. I see some reports of added software and junk being installed. I never have the issue. i just get the installer package from the realtek site and it takes care of the uninstall-reboot, install-reboot and the change is done. nothing else but drivers and software updates .the process has been very smooth and easy since v2.71. i am not sure bout the download.com and /or what they tack on and whether an opt out dialogue box is added. I do not use that method anymore. only a direct realtek site download. easy enough to find and accomplish, and have been safe and clean for years

    Summary

All my comments are contained in the above pro and con boxes. Not much more to add. I stopped using any download . com downloads due to the junk additions , whether an opt out choice is made available or not. i do not like the safe download thing, small download.com downloader that then takes care of the download and security and virus scanning as well as adding additional software to the download and install process.

    "Total Waste of Time"

    February 08, 2013   |   By 58-Hippie

Version: Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Windows Vista / Windows 7 64-bit) 2.68

    Pros

    None that I can see.

    Cons

Installs junk software and alters browser home pages... and DOES NOT update the Codec or the Audio Software.

    Summary

I'm currently using the Realtek HD Audio Manager... 6.0.1.5864 ... Audio Codec: ALC889A ... Direct X 11.0 .... It seems to be buggy now, after some recent system changes, so I thought I'd update it (the original install is from Nov-2009). I'm running MSW Vista Biz 64, so this looked like the answer. Despite the bad reviews I thought I knew better. I'm no PC Genius, but I'm smarter than the average bear (I've built or rebuilt at least 8 PC's since 1992). I'm convinced that this really is a total waste of time, and that this is just junk software.

    Updated on Feb 8, 2013

    Update... a few hours later.

The Realtek Semiconductor Corp. web got me an update to v6.0.1.6662.... I have yet to see if this will help (one display bug still exists for the MSW Volume Control window).

If this site allows links... for the Realtek ALC889A codec... try starting with:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=28&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=173

    My MB is a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H ... running an AMD Phenom X4 9750 Quad-Core Processor ... 4GB RAM

    Have Fun! ... Happy Computing!

    :-)

    "Nice upgrade."

    November 12, 2011   |   By ronrwr26

Version: Realtek High Definition Audio Codec (Windows Vista / Windows 7 64-bit) 2.65

    Pros

Download from CNET was easy and went well. Installation of the upgrade worked fine. At start of install a dialog tells you there will be 2 reboots. I had to reboot 3 times... no problem. The improvement in sound quality is noticeable. Be sure to take the time to check all the SETTINGS incorporated into this new package. Quite a few nice additions there.

    Cons

    None. Nice improvement all around.

    Summary

It's worth taking the time to download and install this new package. Thanks CNET and Realtek!
